Will I have mobile phone coverage on a yacht?

Answer

Mobile coverage depends on the yacht's location and the mobile networks available in the cruising area.

When the yacht is close to shore, guests may be able to use normal cellular networks. Further offshore, mobile coverage can become unavailable and the yacht may rely on satellite communications or onboard internet systems.

The quality and availability of connectivity vary significantly between yachts and destinations.

Analysis

Connectivity is not simply a feature of the yacht. It depends on the combination of onboard communications equipment, cruising location, weather, satellite coverage and network availability.

If reliable connectivity is essential for work or other reasons, it should be treated as a yacht-selection criterion rather than assumed.

If you need reliable internet for work, tell us before we shortlist yachts. “Wi-Fi available” isn't enough information—we need to understand what connectivity the yacht actually has and where you'll be cruising.
