Should we stay in one area or cruise between several destinations?

Answer

Both approaches can work. Staying within a relatively compact cruising area provides more time for swimming, watersports, relaxing aboard and exploring ashore. A broader itinerary provides greater variety but inevitably introduces more time spent underway.

The right balance depends on the destination, yacht, charter duration and interests of the guests.

For a seven-day charter, it is usually more useful to identify a small number of priority experiences than to attempt to cover an entire region.

Options

–

Slow charter: fewer destinations, more time at anchor. –

Exploratory charter: several destinations and more cruising. –

Hybrid: a mixture of movement and relaxed days.

Analysis

The yacht's cruising speed and range can materially affect the practical options. A fast motor yacht may cover distances that would be impractical on a slower sailing yacht.

Human broker comment

When choosing between yachts, do not look only at the yacht itself. Its cruising speed can change what is realistically achievable during a one-week charter.
