Can I negotiate the price of a yacht charter?

Answer

Charter rates can sometimes be commercially negotiable, but there is no automatic discount available simply because a client asks for one.

The possibility of negotiating depends on factors such as yacht availability, timing, season, demand, charter length, itinerary and the owner's commercial position.

Other commercial terms may sometimes be more relevant than simply reducing the headline charter rate.

Analysis

A broker's knowledge of current market availability can be more valuable than simply asking for a percentage discount. A realistic negotiation is based on the yacht's actual position in the market.

Broker Comment

We negotiate where there is a genuine commercial basis for doing so. Sometimes the better result is not a lower rate but securing the right yacht, dates or terms before someone else does.
