What is a yacht tender and why is it important?

Answer

A tender is a smaller boat carried by the yacht. It is commonly used to transport guests between the yacht and shore, explore shallow or inaccessible areas, support watersports and perform practical tasks.

Tender size, speed, capacity and design can vary substantially between yachts.

For some charters, the tender is one of the most important pieces of equipment onboard.

Analysis

The tender can extend the experience beyond the yacht itself. A powerful or spacious tender can be particularly useful for exploring coastlines, visiting beaches, accessing restaurants or supporting fishing and watersports.

Broker’s advice

Don’t overlook the tender when comparing yachts. If you expect to explore extensively, fish, waterski or carry a larger group ashore, the tender may matter much more than a specification that looks impressive on the yacht’s main profile.
