Are sailing yachts uncomfortable compared with motor yachts?

Answer

Not necessarily. Comfort varies considerably between individual yachts and depends on sea conditions, yacht design, stabilisation, accommodation, layout and the preferences of the guests.

Some sailing yachts are designed primarily around performance, while others place a strong emphasis on luxury cruising and comfort.

Guests who are concerned about motion should discuss their requirements with their broker so suitable yachts can be identified.

Analysis

There is no simple motor-versus-sailing rule for comfort. Hull design, size, stabilisation and weather can all influence how a yacht feels underway.

A yacht that is extremely comfortable at anchor may feel very different when sailing in stronger conditions.

Broker’s advice

If comfort and motion are important to you, we’ll make that part of the yacht search from the beginning. There’s no reason to choose a yacht purely from photographs and discover later that its characteristics don’t suit your group.
