How does yacht draft affect where we can cruise?

Answer

A yacht’s draft can influence which shallow bays, anchorages, channels and waterways it can safely access.

The effect is particularly relevant in destinations with shallow coastal waters, narrow passages or significant tidal variation.

Draft is only one factor. The captain also considers actual water depth, tides, seabed conditions, navigation restrictions and weather.

Analysis

For some itineraries, draft is a relatively minor consideration. For others, it can materially affect which parts of the destination are available to the yacht.

Broker’s advice

If your priority is exploring intimate bays rather than simply choosing the largest yacht available, tell us. We’ll consider draft as part of the destination and yacht match.
