Does yacht size affect stability and comfort?

Answer

Yacht size and design can influence stability and the way guests experience movement at sea, but length alone does not determine comfort.

Hull design, beam, displacement, stabilisation systems, sea conditions and cruising speed can all contribute.

Some yachts also have advanced stabilisers designed to reduce rolling both underway and, on suitable yachts, at anchor.

Analysis

Two yachts of similar length can feel quite different at sea. This is why technical specifications and the yacht’s design and stabilisation system can be more informative than length alone.

Broker’s advice

If anyone in your group is particularly sensitive to movement, tell us early. We can focus the search on yachts with appropriate design and stabilisation rather than simply looking for the biggest yacht.
