Can a yacht anchor anywhere?

Answer

No. Yachts cannot necessarily anchor wherever they choose.

Anchoring can be restricted by local regulations, marine parks, environmental protections, harbour rules, underwater infrastructure, navigational requirements and other considerations.

The captain will also assess whether the location is physically suitable for anchoring based on depth, seabed, weather and shelter.

Analysis

A destination that appears ideal on a map may not be a practical anchorage. This is one reason experienced local knowledge can make a significant difference to an itinerary.

Broker Comment

We don't treat an attractive-looking bay on a map as automatically available. The captain and local agents can establish what is permitted and practical for the yacht at the time.
