Does yacht speed matter when choosing a charter yacht?

Answer

It can matter considerably, depending on your intended itinerary. A faster yacht can cover greater distances in the same amount of time, potentially allowing you to visit more widely separated destinations.

However, speed is only one consideration. Fuel consumption, cruising comfort, outdoor space, accommodation, stabilisation, water toys, crew and overall character may be more important depending on the charter.

Analysis

The useful comparison is often cruising speed versus the distances you actually want to travel, rather than maximum speed. A yacht capable of very high speeds may not need to operate anywhere near its maximum speed during a typical charter.

Broker comment

Tell us where you want to go rather than simply asking for the fastest yacht. We can determine whether speed will materially improve your itinerary or whether other yacht charter. Sailing yachts offer a different experience centred around sailing, connection with the sea and the character characteristics should take priority.
