What happens if my yacht charter APA runs out?

Answer

If actual charter expenses exceed the APA provided, additional funds may be requested during or at the end of the charter, depending on the circumstances and the terms of the charter contract.

This can happen because of additional fuel consumption, more expensive provisioning, unexpected marina or port charges, itinerary changes, unusually high guest consumption or other variable expenses.

Analysis

Running beyond the original APA is not necessarily a problem; it simply means that the actual operating costs have exceeded the initial estimate. Good planning and communication can reduce the likelihood of surprises.

Broker comment

If your plans change during the charter — for example, you decide to cruise further, stay in additional marinas or substantially change provisioning — tell the captain and broker early. It is much easier to manage the budget when everyone knows what is changing.
