Why can’t yachts anchor everywhere?

Answer

Yachts cannot anchor everywhere because anchoring can be restricted by depth, seabed conditions, navigation requirements, environmental protection, marine-park rules, local regulations and other considerations.

Some areas protect sensitive seabeds such as seagrass or coral, while others may have designated mooring systems or prohibit anchoring for navigational reasons.

The captain will take applicable restrictions into account.

Analysis

A destination’s visual appeal does not necessarily mean that a yacht can legally or safely stop there.

Environmental regulations are also increasingly important in many cruising areas.

Broker’s advice

When we recommend an itinerary, we distinguish between places that look attractive on a map and places where the yacht can actually anchor, moor or berth appropriately. That practical knowledge is part of good itinerary planning.
