How flexible is a yacht charter itinerary?

Answer

A private yacht charter itinerary is normally considerably more flexible than a conventional holiday itinerary. You can discuss preferred destinations, restaurants, beaches, activities and cruising distances with your broker and captain before departure.

The final itinerary, however, is influenced by weather, sea conditions, marina availability, local regulations and the captain's assessment of safe navigation.

A useful approach is to establish the places and experiences you most want to include while leaving enough flexibility for the captain to optimise the route during the charter.

Options

–

Fixed itinerary: useful when there are specific restaurants, events or destinations that must be included. –

Flexible itinerary: allows the captain to respond to weather and local conditions. –

Hybrid itinerary: agree the priorities but leave daily routing flexible.

Analysis

Flexibility is one of the fundamental advantages of private yacht charter, but it should not be confused with unlimited freedom to go anywhere at any time.

Human broker comment

We generally recommend identifying your “must do” experiences and your “would be nice” experiences. That gives the captain useful flexibility without losing the purpose of the trip.
