How should I tell my broker my charter budget?

Answer

It is usually most useful to give your broker an honest indication of the total level you are comfortable spending, rather than focusing only on the yacht’s advertised weekly rate.

The broker can then distinguish between the base charter rate and additional expenses such as APA, taxes, delivery or repositioning costs and other agreed charges.

If your budget is flexible, saying so can help the broker understand the range of options to consider.

Analysis

A weekly yacht rate is not always the same thing as the final cost of the holiday.

Budget discussions are most useful when they establish whether you mean the yacht rate alone or the approximate overall charter expenditure.

Broker’s advice

We don’t need an exact number immediately. A range is fine. What matters is knowing whether, for example, a €100,000 yacht rate is genuinely within consideration or completely outside it.
