What does the captain do during a yacht charter?

Answer

The captain is responsible for the safe operation and navigation of the yacht and leads the crew during the charter.

The captain also plays an important role in itinerary planning, taking account of weather, sea conditions, local regulations, marina availability, cruising distances and the yacht's capabilities.

On many charter yachts, the captain also becomes an important part of the guest experience, helping clients discover anchorages, activities and destinations.

Analysis

The captain balances guest preferences with operational and safety considerations. A requested itinerary is therefore not necessarily guaranteed if conditions make it impractical or unsafe.

Broker Comment

A good captain can add considerably to a charter. We value captains who understand that their job is not simply to move the yacht, but to help create the best possible experience while maintaining safety and good judgement.
