What is the difference between a master cabin and a VIP cabin?

Short answer

The master cabin is normally the principal owner's-style suite and is usually the largest or most private guest cabin. A VIP cabin is generally a high-quality guest suite, but the exact layout and relative size vary considerably between yachts.

Answer

Yacht terminology can be misleading because there is no universal standard for what constitutes a "VIP" cabin.

A master suite may offer:

Greater floor area. –

Larger bathroom. –

More wardrobe space. –

Better views. –

More privacy. –

Occasionally a private office, lounge or additional facilities.

A VIP cabin may be almost as large and luxurious, particularly on yachts designed with multiple premium suites.

The actual layout should therefore be checked on the yacht's deck plans rather than inferred from the terminology.

Analysis

For groups with two or more couples, the distinction between cabins can materially affect guest satisfaction. A broker should identify the hierarchy and practical differences between cabins.

Broker comment

If two couples expect comparable accommodation, don't rely on the words "VIP" or "double". Look at the actual deck plan and cabin specifications.
