Should I choose a motor yacht or sailing yacht for my charter?

Answer

The choice depends on what you want from the charter. Motor yachts generally offer greater speed, substantial interior and exterior space, and the ability to cover more ground in a shorter period. Sailing yachts offer a different experience centred around sailing, quieter movement under sail, and a closer connection with the sea.

Neither is inherently right for every charter. The best choice depends on your group, destination, itinerary, preferred pace, accommodation requirements and interest in sailing.

Options / distinctions

Motor yacht: Speed, range, large living spaces and efficient movement between destinations. –

Sailing yacht: Sailing experience, quieter cruising under sail and a different relationship with the sea. –

Performance sailing yacht: May combine sailing performance with luxury accommodation. –

Motor-sailer: Can provide elements of both experiences.

Analysis

The yacht should be selected around the experience you want, rather than simply by size, price or appearance. A yacht that is ideal for an island-hopping family holiday may be very different from one suited to a group wanting long sailing days.

This is one of the questions where a broker can add real value. Tell us how you want the week to feel—fast and varied, relaxed and secluded, sailing-focused, family-oriented, social or highly luxurious—and we can work backwards to the yachts and destinations that fit.
