What should I look for in a yacht’s cabin layout?

Short answer

Look at the number, location, size and configuration of cabins, together with bathrooms, privacy, access, storage and their relationship to the yacht's communal areas.

Answer

A yacht's cabin plan can tell you much more than the number of cabins.

Look at:

Master cabin location. –

VIP and guest cabin locations. –

Double versus twin cabins. –

Convertible beds. –

Ensuite bathrooms. –

Cabin access and stairs. –

Distance from noisy areas. –

Crew movement through guest areas. –

Storage and wardrobe space. –

Windows and natural light. –

Privacy between cabins. –

Whether children can be accommodated conveniently.

On some yachts, the master suite is forward or aft and separated from the other guest cabins. On others, all guest cabins are grouped together.

Analysis

The best layout depends on the group. Families may value proximity and supervision, while adult groups may prioritise privacy and separation.

Broker comment

A deck plan should be part of the yacht-selection process—not something you look at after booking.
