How much control do I have over my yacht charter itinerary?

Short answer

A private yacht charter normally allows substantial flexibility over the itinerary, but the captain has ultimate responsibility for safety and may need to change plans because of weather, sea conditions, regulations, marina availability or other operational considerations.

Answer

One of the principal advantages of a private yacht charter is the ability to create an itinerary around your interests.

You can discuss the places you would like to visit with your broker and captain, including beaches, restaurants, villages, diving locations, cultural sites, swimming spots and other experiences.

However, an itinerary is not an unconditional promise that every planned stop will be possible.

The captain is responsible for the safe operation of the yacht and may alter the itinerary if weather, sea conditions, local regulations, anchorage restrictions, marina availability or other factors make the proposed plan unsuitable.

A good itinerary therefore has enough structure to give the charter purpose while retaining flexibility.

Broker insight

The best itineraries usually aren't packed with destinations. Allowing time to enjoy the yacht itself can be just as important as moving from one location to another.
