Who decides where the yacht goes?

Answer

The itinerary is normally developed collaboratively between the charterer, broker and captain.

The charterer provides preferences and priorities—such as destinations, beaches, restaurants, diving, water sports or cultural experiences. The captain then considers the yacht's capabilities, weather, navigation, cruising time and operational restrictions.

The final decision regarding safe navigation and operation of the yacht rests with the captain.

Analysis

The best itineraries are neither entirely predetermined nor completely improvised. They combine the charterer's priorities with the captain's local knowledge and professional judgment.

Broker Comment

Tell us what you actually want from the holiday rather than simply giving us a list of places. “Three great beaches, two excellent lunches and somewhere special for our anniversary” can be more useful than a rigid itinerary.
