Is fuel included in the yacht charter price?

Answer

Fuel is generally treated as a variable charter expense rather than being included in the yacht's advertised base charter rate, although the exact arrangements depend on the charter agreement and destination.

On many charters, anticipated expenses such as fuel are covered through the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). The final amount is based on actual expenditure.

The charter agreement should always be checked for the specific yacht and booking.

Analysis

The advertised weekly charter rate should not automatically be treated as the total amount you will pay. Variable expenses can include fuel, food and beverages, marina fees, port charges and other agreed costs.

Broker Comment

One of our jobs as brokers is to distinguish the headline charter rate from the likely total cost. We would rather give you a realistic budget at the beginning than have unexpected costs become apparent during the charter.
