What happens if the APA runs out?

Answer

If the yacht's actual agreed expenses exceed the APA advance, additional funds may be requested during the charter so that the yacht can continue to pay those expenses.

The exact process depends on the charter agreement and the circumstances. The captain or crew should generally keep the charterer informed about significant expenditure and the remaining balance.

The amount of APA required can be affected by factors such as fuel consumption, the itinerary, marina use, provisioning and the charterer's food and beverage preferences.

Analysis

A high APA spend does not necessarily mean something has gone wrong. A charter involving extensive cruising, expensive marinas, significant fuel consumption or high-end provisioning may naturally consume more.

Human broker comment

If you have a particular spending preference — for example, premium wines, extensive watersports or frequent marina stays — tell your broker before the charter. It helps create a more realistic budget.
