What is the difference between cruising and anchoring?

Answer

Cruising means the yacht is underway, travelling from one location to another. Anchoring means the yacht has reached a location and is stationary, normally using an anchor rather than remaining underway.

Guests often spend a combination of time cruising between destinations and staying at anchor for swimming, water sports, relaxing or going ashore.

The balance depends on the itinerary and yacht.

Analysis

Some guests imagine that a yacht charter means continuously sailing or motoring from place to place. In practice, much of the day may be spent stationary in a beautiful anchorage.

The ideal balance depends on whether guests prioritise exploring destinations or maximising time onboard and on the water.

Broker’s advice

If you tell us whether you want to explore or slow down, we can shape the itinerary accordingly. Some clients want several destinations; others would rather find three exceptional anchorages and stay there.
