Is a short yacht charter more expensive per day?

Answer

A yacht advertised at a weekly charter rate may still be available for a shorter charter, but the cost per night can be higher. This can reflect short-charter premiums, repositioning, preparation, crew and other costs that do not reduce proportionately with the number of nights.

For example, a yacht with a weekly rate of €70,000 does not necessarily become a €30,000 three-night charter simply because three nights represent three-sevenths of a week.

Analysis

The important comparison is the total charter cost and experience, rather than simply the nightly rate.

A shorter charter can nevertheless make financial sense when it avoids paying for nights you cannot use.

Broker comment

Ask your broker for the all-in estimated cost for your actual dates, rather than trying to calculate it from the headline weekly rate.
