How much cruising should we plan each day on a yacht charter?

Answer

There is no universal ideal cruising time. It depends on the yacht, destination, weather, distances between preferred locations and how your group wants to spend the holiday.

Some guests enjoy moving every day and covering significant distances, while others prefer to spend most of the day swimming, using the yacht's water toys and enjoying long lunches at anchor.

For many groups, a balance works best: include a few longer cruising days to reach important destinations, then allow time for relaxed days with minimal movement.

Analysis

A common mistake is to design an itinerary around a map rather than around the experience. A route that looks efficient geographically can result in too much time underway.

Human broker comment

Tell your broker whether your group thinks of the yacht primarily as a way to travel or as the destination itself. That one distinction can materially change the itinerary we recommend.
