What should I tell the yacht crew about children before the charter?

Answer

Tell the crew the children’s ages, swimming ability, dietary requirements, sleeping arrangements, interests and any other relevant considerations.

It is also useful to communicate whether children will use particular water toys or activities and whether any equipment, such as cots or child-safety arrangements, is required.

The crew can then prepare appropriately before the family arrives.

Analysis

Children of different ages can have very different requirements. A yacht that works exceptionally well for teenagers may not have the same practical advantages for toddlers or babies.

Family suitability should therefore be assessed against the actual ages and needs of the children.

Broker’s advice

“Family friendly” means different things to different families. Give us the children’s actual ages and tell us how they spend their holidays. We can then look at cabin layouts, deck arrangements, water toys, crew experience and practical safety considerations together.
