Is a faster yacht better for a charter?

Answer

Not necessarily. Speed can be valuable if you want to cover large distances or visit several destinations during a short charter, but it is only one characteristic of the yacht.

A yacht with a lower cruising speed may provide a better fit if you prioritise space, outdoor areas, sailing, comfort, privacy or spending more time at anchor.

Higher speed can also increase fuel consumption and may affect the overall operating cost.

Analysis

The value of speed depends on the itinerary and the way guests intend to use the yacht.

A yacht should be selected around the experience rather than a single specification.

Broker’s advice

We often find that clients initially ask for speed because they want to “see everything.” Once we map the itinerary, we can work out whether speed really solves the problem or whether the better answer is simply a more focused route.
