How does provisioning work on a charter yacht?

Answer

Provisioning is the process of arranging the food, beverages and other consumable supplies required for the charter. Before departure, guests normally provide preferences covering meals, snacks, drinks, dietary requirements and particular products they would like onboard.

The chef and crew then use this information to plan purchases and prepare the yacht for the guests' arrival. Fresh supplies can also be replenished during the charter where practical.

Analysis

Provisioning is not simply a supermarket shopping list. It is part of planning the onboard experience and should reflect the itinerary, guest preferences, local availability and expected activities.

Broker comment

A detailed preference sheet is one of the easiest ways to improve a charter. Tell the crew what you genuinely eat and drink rather than trying to create a restaurant-style menu unless that is what you actually want.
