Can a yacht chef cater for allergies and dietary requirements?

Answer

Many yacht chefs can accommodate a wide range of dietary requirements, but these should be communicated clearly and well in advance.

Requirements may include food allergies, intolerances, vegetarian or vegan diets, religious dietary requirements and specific medical or nutritional restrictions.

The chef and provisioning team need accurate information so appropriate ingredients can be sourced and cross-contamination risks managed where relevant.

Analysis

“Dietary preference” and “food allergy” are not interchangeable. A serious allergy should be identified explicitly so the crew can understand its implications and plan appropriately.

The availability of particular specialist ingredients may also depend on the destination.

Broker’s advice

Please tell us about allergies early rather than assuming they can be dealt with when you arrive. We can make sure the yacht and chef understand the requirement and have an opportunity to plan the provisioning you need to choose between “fine dining” and “casual food” for the whole week. We can communicate the style you properly.
