Does a yacht need a watersports instructor?

Answer

Not necessarily. Whether instruction is required depends on the activity, the guest’s experience, the equipment and applicable local requirements.

Some yacht crew members may be qualified to operate or supervise particular equipment, while specialist activities may require a dedicated instructor or external provider.

The relevant requirements should be confirmed for the specific yacht and destination.

Analysis

Having a water toy onboard does not automatically mean that the crew is qualified to provide formal instruction in its use.

This distinction is particularly important for higher-risk or specialist activities.

Broker’s advice

If someone in your group wants to learn a particular watersport rather than simply use the equipment, tell us. We can check whether the crew can provide the appropriate support or whether a specialist instructor should be arranged.
