Can we choose our own anchorages on a yacht charter?

Answer

Guests can generally express preferences for particular bays or anchorages, but the captain will determine where the yacht can safely and legally anchor. Depth, seabed conditions, weather, swell, local restrictions, other vessels and the yacht's characteristics all need to be considered.

Analysis

A beautiful anchorage on a map is not necessarily suitable on the day. Wind direction and swell can change whether an otherwise ideal location is comfortable a precise anchorage. This leaves room for local knowledge and weather-dependent or safe.

Broker comment

It is often better to give the captain a list of places you would like to experience rather than insist on a precise anchorage. This leaves room for local knowledge and weather-dependent decisions.
