Should I choose a motor yacht or a sailing yacht?

Answer

The choice depends on how you want the charter to feel and what you want to do during the trip.

Motor yachts generally provide greater speed and can make it easier to cover larger distances. Sailing yachts offer a different experience centred around sailing, wind, connection with the sea and often a quieter style of cruising.

There is substantial variation within both categories, so the individual yacht remains important.

Analysis

The distinction is not simply speed versus sails. Layout, outdoor space, stability, noise, performance, crew, water access and cruising style can all differ.

A modern sailing yacht may offer substantial comfort and luxury, while motor yachts range from fast performance-oriented vessels to large floating resorts.

Broker’s advice

We start by asking what you want to experience. If the magic for you is waking up in a different bay every morning and sailing between destinations, that’s a very different brief from wanting to cover hundreds of miles and visit several towns.
