How much time should I spend cruising during a yacht charter?

Answer

There is no fixed amount of time that you should spend cruising each day. It depends on the destination, yacht, weather and what you want from the holiday.

Some charterers enjoy being underway for several hours and want to explore as much coastline as possible. Others prefer short passages between anchorages and spend most of the day swimming, relaxing and exploring ashore.

A balanced itinerary might combine:

Short morning passages –

Longer scenic cruising days –

Afternoon swimming stops –

Overnight anchorage –

Marina or port visits –

Shore excursions –

Days with little or no movement

The captain will also need to consider weather, sea conditions, navigation and safe operating conditions. Broker perspective

When planning an itinerary, tell your broker whether you are destination-driven or experience-driven. That simple distinction can materially change the way the itinerary is designed.
