Oyster Marine

UK sailing yacht builder, Oyster Marine, has been widely acclaimed across the globe for its yachts that depict a unique combination of excellence, comfort and performance. A leader in the market of premium cruising super yachts and motor yachts, Oyster Marine Ltd has provided some of excellent yachts such like the little Oyster 46 and Oyster 125 to the yachting world. Headquartered in Fox's Marina, Ipswich, Suffolk, Oyster Marine has also opened its sales branches in the USA, Germany, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Central Europe and Asia.

The new range of Oyster Superyachts is being created by the combined resources of three long-established teams, double Queen’s Award yacht builder Oyster Marine, Dubois Naval Architects and RMK Marine. The largest Oyster afloat today is the Oyster 82 whose sales are already well into double figures. The new series of Oyster superyachts, the Oyster 100, Oyster 125 and Oyster 125 flybridge will complement the existing Oyster range. With their handsome, Dubois designed, outboard profiles they will be stunning additions to the Oyster fleet.

RMK Marine has committed considerable financial resources to the building of the new Oyster superyachts. This includes a new 80m x 40m building hall (3200sq m), which houses a high temperature post cure oven of 40m x 12m (480sq m) capable of operating at 130ºC and believed to be one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

In addition to Oyster’s in-house superyacht project co-coordinator, Hamish Burgess-Simpson, RMK has employed an experienced team to ensure the success of the superyacht project, which includes Stephen Thomas, who ran Projection Yachts, an infusion moulding specialist; Dave Powys of America’s Cup yacht building fame and Matthew Morgan who has worked with Sensation Yachts in New Zealand, DK Yachts in Malaysia and Polyworx, the Dutch infusion specialists Oyster Marine, formed by Richard Matthews in the year 1973, had its first project titled as UFO, a 32 feet prototype which won the RYS de Mass Cup. Some of the significant yachts by the company include Oyster 37, 39, 46, 56, 62 and 72.  Oyster shipyard also has its own in-house design team with Rob Humphreys as the lead designer. Moreover, Dubois Naval Architects joined the company’s design team in 2008, providing an additional impetus to the making of elegant yachts by the shipyard.

The shipyard has always paid constant attention to the needs of the owner and the shipyard has proved this with super yachts such as Oyster 46 and Oyster 125. Oyster Marine allows its clients to customize the yachts in terms of joinery timber, interior configuration, and other materials such as counter tops and soft furnishings, along with an array of tried and tested optional tools.

Oyster Marine has also received highly acclaimed award such as the Queen's Awards (Highest British Industrial Award), which still gives the shipyard the needed extra boost to surpass its own performances with every new craft. However, the most awaited model of the shipyard is its 100m super yacht scheduled for launch in 2010.

Presently, 50% of Shipyard’s quotations are those of their already existing clients. Oyster marine believes in maintaining relationship beyond the business and a perfect example of this was the latest Oyster Regatta - BVI 2010 held in April, which recorded high attendance from all the shipyard’s present and prospective clients. The evidence puts across the fact that Oyster Marine poses a strong competition for its counterparts not because of its innovation alone but also because of other features such as seaworthiness and comfort that it has been incorporating in its yachts.
