Abeking & Rasmussen

Abeking & Rasmussen is a large and successful yacht building company, which having an emphasis on quality, has created some of the most beautiful luxury yachts in the world.  The yard currently produces classic, performance and cruising sailing yachts from varying materials, as well as larger 50m plus luxury motor yachts.

George Abeking & Henry Rasmussen founded this great Germany shipbuilding company in 1907.  Since then more than 6,400 ships and luxury yachts have been built including many famous classic yachts.  Nowadays, Abeking & Rasmussen focus their considerable talents on larger yachts over 30 meters (100ft) in length.  The new yachts are modern and technologically advanced, just like their classic counterparts where at the time they were built.  They too are classics of the future.

“It is our task to transform the owner’s dreams into functional and reliable reality without making any aesthetic compromises.”

A truly experienced shipyard, Abeking & Rasmussen produces not only luxury private yachts but also larger specialist ships, with exceptional sea keeping stability, for military and commercial uses.  This understanding of technology and fabrication is brought directly into their superyacht production, whether motor yacht or sailing.

A & R ROTEC GNBH is a subsidiary of Abeking & Rasmussen and is the composite fibre division.  A & R ROTEC GNBH specialises in the development of new technologies for the construction of cutting edge luxury yachts and special ships as well as massive rotor blades for wind turbines.  This division brings leading technology directly to the application of modern composite yacht building.

Abeking and Rasmussen Yachts are also traditionally manufacture boats and ships for Navies, Coast Guards and Authorities that have longevity and provide with an extraordinary cruising experience. In 1907, the shipyard of Abeking and Rasmussen was founded by Henry Rasmussen with his partner Georg Abeking on the banks of the river Weser. Over the years, with 5 halls and ships upto 80m, modern office buildings, an inner harbour and a syncrolift, the shipyard has become a unique shipbuilding complex. The shipyard consists of workshops that are not only environment friendly but have advanced production facilities for conventional steel, aluminium and non-magnetizable steel.

In its hay days, the shipyard had become extremely popular for its work boats and motor as well as sailing yachts which had excellent operational characteristics. Since then, the series of clients for this firm have been transport entities, government authorities, private owners and Navy. Initially, the smaller type boats were the main focus of Abeking and Rasmussen Yachts. But, today, the product range has moved to larger though fewer, units. Earlier wood was the main component used by the shipyard to construct boats. However, with the passing of time and collaboration with various research institutes, the company made aluminium and steel based ships, involving technical innovations. For instance, the company used lighter material for hull construction, special welding and production techniques as well as effective sound-damping systems.

Some of the famous yachts and sailing boats crafted by Abeking and Rasmussen Yachts are as follows:

Yacht Eminence is one of the latest creations of the shipyard. It is 78,40m long and 12,40m in beam. Like all Abeking and Rasmussen Yachts, this one too, is famous for its interiors, which are extensive, generous and remarkable. One of unique features of the yacht is its mast which carries the shape of the tailpin of a whale.

Another latest innovation of the shipyard is Aviva, which is 68m long and has a bow that is vertical and sharp like a knife as it rises up out of the water. The yacht has also earned a nomination for “World Superyacht Awards 2008” in Venice.

The shipyard’s series of motor yachts consists of a variety beginning with the Lady Sheridan, My Little Violet, Bravado Kwikumat, Zenobia, Excellence III, Ultima III, Airwaves to Sea Jewel. Alithia, Extra Beat, Hetairos, Arrayan and Globana.

In addition to these, Abeking and Rasmussen yachts have also been successful in the SWATH applications. The company has developed SWATH Technology on the background of its longstanding experience in hydrodynamics, lightweight construction, special materials and leading edge ship design. SWATH technology consists of Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull that are provided to the the German and Netherlands pilot system in the North Sea. This revolutionary, seaworthy and stable shiptype planes, marked under the name SWATH@A&R, are a superior alternative to many coast guard- surveillance-, hydrographic- and service-missions.

For over 90 years, Abeking and Rasmussen has been partner of the German and foreign navies. The Mine Counter Measure Vessels which are highly demanded by these authorities have been designed and built in more than 360 units by the company. This feat makes A&R to be the most experienced German shipyard in this field. In 2002 and 2003, the shipyard provided the German Border Police with three 66m Offshore Patrol Vessels.

Bannenberg Design, Raymond Langton, Donald Starkey, Tripp Design and Winch form the team of designers for the company. These designers brought with them new ideas, unconventional concepts and transformed them into interesting interior and exterior designs for the company. The designs created by them were synonymous to a unique and timeless elegance, that was  spectacular and traditional at the same time.

The Abeking and Rasmussen shipyard is also very highly recommended for refitting services.
