History of Amels started several generations ago, when in 1918 the company started building many ocean going ships. In 1982 the shipyard emerged as a global brand leader in luxury yacht building, by launching their first luxury motor yacht. In 1991 became a member of Damen Shipyard Group gaining more advanced technology and financial strength. Amels Yachts are currently building and refitting in shared modern facilities of Damen Scheide Naval Shipbuilding.
Custom built yachts by Amels are created by world's leading designers, set on proven platforms of their advanced naval architecture and engineering. Their exterior and interior are created in collaboration between the client and the company, with emphasis on client satisfaction, as well as technical precision, seaworthiness, safety, economy, efficient logistics and environmental respect. M/Y Aquarius (ex MY Shanti 2007), the 2008 Lady Nag Nag and the 2003 charter yacht Solemar are only some of the Amels Custom built vessels.
Their Limited Edition yachts revolutionize the semi-custom built market place, offering great service to clients seeking a first-class luxury superyacht, delivered in less time. The Limited Editions are built on the best platforms, applying the same standards, methods, technology and materials as the Custom yachts. Although each of them may start off as a 'sistership', they offer extensive options for personalization and are always launched with a unique expression of individuality. Some of Amels Limited Editions include the Amels 212 yacht Imagine (2011), the 171 series charter yacht Bel Abri (2010) and the Amels 177 Addiction Yacht (2009).
Another series, marketed by Amels and built by Damen is the Sea Axe fast yacht support series (FYS). The Sea Axe FYS is a high-speed, high-capacity, all-weather oceangoing craft, carrying helicopter, tenders, toys, consumables and crew, to free up luxury space aboard the 'mother ship'. One of the Amels' fast yacht support series is the Sea Axe Oberon, launched in 2010.
Having launched more than 30 superb new luxury yachts, Amels Yacht specializes also in their refurbishment or overhaul. The shipyard has also re-launched more than 30 boats, with a total length of 1,600 metres. One of the stunning refits is the classic, 52 metre Feadship superyacht Rio Rita.
