New Generation Explorer Motor Yacht E&E – Comments from Vripack Naval Architects

September 22, 2011

The 42m Expedition yacht E &E (ex Jasmin II) designed by Vripack is a new generation motor yacht that is an explorer yacht with the elegance of a Super Yacht. Renowned for their long range comfortable cruisers Vripack designed superyacht E &E for a repeat customer back in 2009. Now at the 2011 2011 Monaco Yacht Show Motor Yacht E&E makes her grand debut in style.

As with their first yacht, the Vripack Explorer Jasmin built by RMK, the Owner and his wife allowed us to come up with a unique design.” Says Bart Bouwhuis of Vripack.

“Evolving on the main volumes of their Explorer and keeping the good flow of the layout, we managed to style her with a softer and more mature look. This also meant we sketched well over hundred critical details for the yard to make sure the finesse we envisioned her to have would remain also during construction and fairing. We did not make it easy for them but ultimately they did an outstanding job.”

Besides designing her exterior expressions Vripack also made sure the sea going comfort, which both the Family and the huge amount of charter guests so often raved about, was kept if not improved.

“The hull is based on our library of 50 years Research and Development. We performed multiple in house CFD studies and our Naval Architects executed their most extensive still water and sea keeping model test ever. All and all we spent nearly two weeks in the basin testing alone. Analyzing, optimizing and testing again until we were satisfied. This resulted for example in the yacht being built on weight target by nearly the kilo, which in turn has her burn a mere 65 liters per hour at 11,8 knots which was measured during her maiden voyage. Proving our statement thatconventional yachts can go Green if designed with the proper attention.”

“With 2011 marking Vripack’s 50th anniversary, it is clear we are very proud that we have not one but two returning clients taking delivery of their yachts. In the spring the 141ft Research Vessel Yacht Axantha II was launched by JFA and now we have the 138ft E&E in the water by Cizgi and both Families are truly happy with their different yet similar ships. May they create countless memories with them.” Bart concludes.

Art-Line interiors have released the following information regarding yacht E & E’s interior design at the Monaco Yacht Show.

“We were very pleased with the opportunity to design the interior for E&E and we are even more pleased with the result.

To design the interior for this yacht with an unusual lay-out and with a different use of deck space has been a great challenge.

To us design must represent an ideal balance between function and emotion. Together with a great team involved we were able to achieve this ideal.

Again we are able to add to our portfolio a yacht with a new and different concept Therefore we say thanks to the owner and all those people who work so hard to build this beautiful yacht.

To connect the 2 guest decks, we designed a central located staircase which will give almost a complete view thru-out both decks.

This staircase divided by a glass bridges gives on the main deck access to the owner’s suite forward and aft it will bring you to the salon with the dining area.

The glass bridge on the upper deck gives access to a panorama salon forward and aft the guest suites with the possibility to go outdoor directly from the suite.

It was our task to design an interior for private use as well for charter purpose in an elegant cosy contemporary style.

For the veneers in general we used an Indian Apple all in a high gloss finish and combined with off white tones in leathers, paint and onyx with here and there some gold accents.

In all the suites we used nice accent colours for all the fabrics which are followed by the headboards as well the mosaics in the bathrooms in the same matching colours

We try to make each Art-Line interior offer clients wide choices in styling each individualised space.

To us, design is not just a matter of assembling components: it requires our applying insight into clients’ personalities and desires to complete each project to their satisfaction.”

36m Classic Gentleman’s Motor yacht Mylne PF36 by A Mylne & Co

September 01, 2011

Mylne & Co have recently announced details behind a new 36m Gentlemans motor yacht project called Mylne PF36 they have been discreetly working on since November 2010. Codenamed PF36, this retro styled motor yacht has been designed to take its owner around the world in comfort and style, while being environmentally conscious.

36m Classic Gentleman's Motor yacht Mylne PF36 by A Mylne & Co

36m Classic Gentleman's Motor yacht Mylne PF36 by A Mylne & Co

Mylne & Co worked hard to deliver a motor yacht design solution that meets both the owners classic tastes, and the classic proportions and detailing that makes a Mylne special, such as the use of pre-war materials (for example, even the anchor is made of bronze in preference to stainless steel) and that classic Mylne shear line.

The hull of the Mylne PF36 yacht uses a pre-war technique to make the most of limited horsepower – a consideration when diesel engines were not so powerful and relatively cheap as they are now. The hull is therefore relatively narrow, cutting in just above the waterline.  Mylne & Co spent considerable time tuning the hull to give the best possible performance at 10 knots, with a target fuel consumption on propulsion of 30 litres/hr at this speed. Tank testing at Glasgow University has confirmed predictions, though they are going to attempt further improvements with re-design of the traditional Grenaa 3 bladed controllable pitch propeller, and careful CFD analysis of the stern area.

36m Classic Gentleman's Motor yacht Mylne PF36 by A Mylne & Co

36m Classic Gentleman's Motor yacht Mylne PF36 by A Mylne & Co

Propulsion will be with a Grenaa 6 cyclinder engine delivering a maximum of 600BHP at 500 RPM. This large and robust unit (weighing in at over 8 tonnes) meets Tier II emissions requirements, and provides the yacht with a beating heart unlike any other yacht being built today. In fact it was a requirement of the design that the gentle beat of the engine was just audible throughout the yacht.

The Mylne PF36 yacht will have 4 tenders, two specially designed aluminium 5.5m yacht tenders, electrically powered, and bearing an unmistakable classic planing shape. On the main deck there will be an International 14 sailing dingy on the aft deck, and a general use diesel powered fast crew boat.

Rigging will be painted aluminium masts with bead blasted stainless steel rigging and fittings to give a more authentic “galvanised” look. The kite sail will be launched from the formast with the forestay removed (the rigging is being specially designed to allow for this downwind function). A sliding crow’s nest will make ascending the mast for inspection and look out purposes a simple matter.

Interior design of the Mylne PF36 superyacht is by renowned Scottish designer Malcolm Duffin. Malcolms brief was to create a clean classic interior reminiscent of classic Mylne sailing and motor yachts. After months of research, design and discussion, Malcolm and his team have created a stunning interior which relies on simplicity and almost Calvanistic austerity in its form and function, leaving the owner (a collector of marine antiquities) to embellish the yacht in his own personal manner once he takes full ownership.

The owner’s tastes for antique’s is reflected in the style of the Mylne PF36 yacht, but also in the many re-claimed and re-cycled fittings being used on board. The windows, bridge equipment, winches and fittings are almost all recovered pieces, and their use not only creates an authentic pre-war feel, but gives the project further “green” credentials.

Mylne have spent the last four years re-building one of the greatest brands in yachting history, and look forward to seeing PF36 launched as the first completely new design for nearly 30 years.

We look forward to telling you more about this project as it develops.

The crew area is located in the bow of the yacht, and has got space for 10 crewmembers. In the stern of the lower deck there is a technical space and a special area for diving gear. This area is connected to a very large swimming platform. The spacious main salon is located on the main deck and is directly connected to the aft deck. The round dining table provides space for 12 persons. The galley is situated in the middle of the main deck. The spacious full beam owners cabin, which is located in the front-part of the main deck, has a bath, a large shower area and a fantastic view over the water through the large windows in the hull.
