There are some spectacular new launches to look forward to in 2018: Both Feadship and Oceanco will be unveiling their largest superyachts yet, Benetti have created a unique asymmetrical layout and designers from across the world have created bespoke living spaces tailored to each owner’s tastes. When it comes to quality and scale, these will be the launches that capture everyone’s attention over the coming year; here’s a small preview of what’s to come:

Oceanco Y717 Yasmin – Oceanco, 90m

Little is currently known about the 90m/295ft superyacht currently in build by Oceanco but her appearance is believed to be based on a concept from renowned designer Luiz de Basto. As such, she is expected to have an abundance of windows, much to the benefit of guests wanting to enjoy the sunsets from the comfort of one of the many the lounges. Once Y717 launches in 2018 she will become the yard’s flagship superyacht.

Project Thunder – Lurssen, 135m

Designed by Espen Oeino, PROJECT THUNDER is a glossy black hull and silver superstructure that looks more like a floating modern mansion than a typical superyacht: Black windows stretch over 3 decks to add a vertical dimension to the sleek, mostly horizontal lines. The interiors have been described as ‘traditional’ by the yard and there is a helicopter hangar concealed within. This imposing 135m/443ft mega yacht is expected to be spotted cruising through the world’s favourite charter grounds in 2018.

Project Balance – Benetti, 63m

Privacy was one of the key considerations when selecting the layout for 63m/207ft motor yacht PROJECT BALANCE (FB276) and the Owner’s suite on the upper deck is a prime example, offering its own lounge and exclusive terrace. Giorgio M. Cassetta is responsible for the exteriors while Bannenberg & Rowell have produced interiors that use a muted spectrum of colours to amplify the light and sense of space within. An unusual characteristic is an asymmetrical layout that places recreational spaces such as the beach club at a 30° angle for a different view out over the water.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and indoor ‘gardens’ enhance the guest areas, which use natural textures and pale tones for a tranquil social environment.

M/Y DAYS is expected to launch in the summer of 2018. Engineering comes from Endaze Marine Engineering, exteriors by Michele Dragoni of Hot Lab Yacht Design and interiors by Enrico Lumini.

Geometric forms add a futuristic element to a familiar and welcoming contemporary environment where comfort and efficiency are as important as appearance. 12 guests will be accommodated over 5 cabins and the MANGUSTA GRANDSPORT 54 will be capable of a top speed of 29 knots and a range of 4,200 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Project Lightning – Lurssen, 135+m

As with the majority of Lurssen’s projects under construction, there is not much information floating around about the highly anticipated Project Lightning. We know that the megayacht will be around 135 metres in length and surely impress everyone. From the available videos and images, the ship will most likely feature huge interior and exterior deck areas,  a massive beach club and has enough space for a couple of helipads. Although she is not due for delivery until 2019, she is certainly one of the yachts to follow in 2018.
