40m motor yacht Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid by Palumbo and interior by Hot Lab Design

May 21, 2012

Following a huge success of the 53.9m luxury yacht Prima at the Monaco Yacht Show, Palumbo is currently working on the 40m motor yacht Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid, as well as a 55m and a 60m superyachts. Combining new lines and high technology with the respect for the marine environment, the Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid superyacht is truly an innovative concept and features interior design by Hot Lab Design.

It is in fact very well known how the respect for the marine environment is important for Palumbo, who was also awarded with Prima by the Prince Albert II at the presence of his guest His Majesty the King of Spain for the RINA Green Star Plus. The Prima superyacht was also awarded at World Superyacht Awards with a Judges’ Commendation for the high quality achieved for an extremely competitive price.

Palumbo luxury yacht Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid will comply latest IMO MARPOL regulations and will be equipped with a bilge water separator even if not requested by class. The most environmental friendly feature is the hybrid system itself. This permits to have a slow navigation with Main Engines turned off and just two generators running. It’s Well known that Generators have a low impact on environment due to the fact that their engines run at fixed rpm thus reducing NOx and SOx emission.

The construction of the Palumbo superyacht Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid started some months ago. Columbus 130’ Hybrid measures 40 meters in length and 8.20 meters a beam, stretching over three decks with very impressive internal volumes. She will built under RINA classification in compliance with MCA. Three guest cabins plus the Owner’s suite for a total of 8 people plus 1 and 3 crew cabins plus one Captain’s cabin.

A spectacular flybridge with an extraordinary autonomy and modern exterior styling are the main characteristics of the new fabulous Columbus Sport 130′ Hybrid yacht. Both the hull with a semi-displacement type, and the superstructure are in aluminum, thought to reduce the weight and the consumption.

The 40m Columbus Sport 130′ Hybrid yacht has also an optional diesel electric hybrid propulsion system, constructed with the intention of having a minimal impact on the environment with a comfortable cruising range of 5,000 nm.

The Hybrid system that will be used on the Columbus 130 Sport Hybrid yacht consists basically of two electric engines connected to the gear box. This allows to have electrical navigation for a maximum speed of 7.5 kn getting power from Generators, and to generate electrical energy while in navigation on Main Engines.

Hybrid system can be useful for quiet night navigation, being electrical engines very silent. Due to the quick mechanical answer of Electric Engines they can be very useful during maneuvering in port thus having Main Diesel Engines turned off. Very important feature is the power generation during navigation, this allows to low maintenance costs on Diesel Generators and fuel consumption.

The windows of the main saloon are particularly large allowing the Owner and the guest to better feeling the sea. Notwithstanding the relatively small size of the yacht Columbus sport 130 Hybrid, very large internal volumes (Internal Volume is 1400 m3 abt.) along with some special feature, such as a beach club on the stern, will give the perception to be on board a bigger yacht.

What the Shipyard and the Owner tried to reach is a solution able to create a yacht that would remain a yacht allowing the Owner and the crew to feel the real sensation of the sea and of its beauty.

Palumbo, as a result of the great experience of the motor yacht Prima, will build these yachts with its same young team. The passion for the sea and for the boats in general is the leit motiv that ties the entire team together.

Palumbo entrusted Hydro Tec Naval Architecture with the naval architectureof the Columbus Sport 130 Hybrid yacht; instead the Interior Designer chosen by Owner is Hot Lab: yacht & design, recently winner of the prestigious Showboats Design Award.

In the superyacht Columbus Sport 130’ Hybrid each detail has been carefully studied by the Shipyard together with the Owner with the aim to realize a yacht with an elegant and refined style. Particularly, the interior shows a combination of “warm” materials with soft colors avoiding any strong contrast.

Marbles such as Breccia Sarda and Adria Venato will be matched together with Grey Larch for the floor, Tay wood and Dark Oak.

Leather, polished stainless steel and precious fabrics will complete the mood board. The Columbus Sport 130 Hybrid yacht will have several “convertible” areas in terms that they can be changed according the number of the guests on board for example the VIP apartment can be converted in two guests suites or the twin cabin can be converted in a double cabin thanks to a sliding system of the bed.

On the Main deck the full size windows grant an incredible light in the saloon. It is here that it is possible to feel the real essence of the sea
thanks to two large sliding windows/doors and opening bulwarks.

Light colors of the walls and of the ceilings represent the style of the Columbus Sport 130 Hybrid yacht granting the Owner and his guests a undoubted relaxing atmosphere breathing the sea.

A green touch is present also in the interior design, in fact Hot Lab choose just FSC certified woods – FSC is wood that is certified under the standard set by the Forest Stewardship Council. Instead the leather that was been choosen are treated with a particular water painting process and also these materials are by products of the meat industry, which would otherwise become landfill.

Cantiere delle Marche signs contract for the Darwin Class explorer yacht Darwin 95′ by Hydro Tec

September 27, 2011

The recently established Italian luxury yacht builder Cantiere Delle Marche is proud to announce its Darwin Class yacht range’s success. After building three Darwin 86′ yachts, the yard has signed a contract to build the fourth Darwin superyacht – the 95′ Darwin Class motor yacht – after only 11 months from the company’s birth.

Darwin 95 superyacht designed by Hydro Tec

Darwin 95 superyacht designed by Hydro Tec

Vasco Buonpensiere, sales and marketing director, comments:”We are incredibly satisfied  and proud of the redemption we had after the important showcase in Cannes. The  number and the quality of the contacts that came from the boat show are amazing and the  overall appreciation for the construction’s features of the Darwin Class confirmed our  belief that the yacht market is now looking for quality, contents, design and attention for  the details, in order to answer to this evolution of the ship owner’s needs. The new  nautical year has opened in the best way for Cantiere delle Marche: after less than a year  from our birth, we debut with the first Darwin Class in one of the most important boat show of the international market. More, we have already signed four contracts, in  particular the most recent, for the sale of a 95’ Darwin Class yacht”.

Darwin Class 95’yacht , designed by Hydro Tec Srl (Sergio Cutolo), maintains the Darwin family  feeling,  but it differentiates from the  86’ for many features: the interiors  – each room is  10sqm bigger -,  the crew accomodations (5 people), two Caterpillar engines C18 that give  13,5 knots speed without noise and the minimum levels of consumption. The sky lounge,  opened on the wheelhouse, is designed to satisfy the ship-owner request of steering his yacht and, at the same time, enjoying the company of his guests. The interiors will be contemporary, linear and very luminous, with a total white lower deck enriched by details in essence. The interior designers are Pierluigi Floris and Marco Veglia.

As the interiors, also the exteriors  gain in volumes  in order to enjoy the very best sensations every minute of the life aboard: all the bridges are noticeably longer and the sundeck has become about 50sqm, from 40sqm on the Darwin 86.

The new Darwin 95′ expedition yacht totally matches with the Darwin Class’ technical features as far as for the  extra-thick steel plates, the Cupro Nickel piping, the remote controlled valves, the automatic parallel device for gensets’ management, etc.

Every details in the engine room has been designed and constructed following the criteria that are usually used on high quality vessels exceeding 40 metres. The treatment systems for bilge, black and grey water are plants used also on commercial ships and could work H24.As for the 86’, the 95’ we have two rudders that could be controlled also independently to offer an incredible maneuverability in every sea condition.

This system has been tested time after time by the captain of the Darwin Class 86’ motor yacht “Vitadimare 3”, during more than 3000 miles of navigation from the day of delivery.

“The fourth closed contract and the two letters of interests we have just signed for the next years demonstrate once again that our yachts fit with the current yacht market’s needs” – comments Vasco Buonpensiere. And he adds: ”Ever since its recent foundation, Cantiere delle Marche has set out to distinguish itself in terms of the contents of its vessels, focussing on top-flight quality and unique design. Each ship, produced in only a limited number of units, guarantees sturdy, seaworthy performance, combined with low fuel consumption and the stunning volumes of the interiors”.

The delivery of the 45.05 Explorer Motor yacht Project 500 by Mondo Marine is expected to take 24-months from signing of contract.

Some optional features onboard the yacht can changed such as the engine package which can upgraded to electrical sets to allow for the option of switching to electrical propulsion when needed especially when underway at night. If the standard engine package is chosen then twin CAT C32 634 Kw engines are expected to power Project 500. A 14 knot cruising speed is expected.

Another possibility for MondoMarine Project 500 is the addition of a helipad. Although the current design does not include a helipad, it can be added if the owner chooses. The heli pad will be a touch and go pad rather than one that can house a helicopter for extended periods.
