Designed by Bremerhaven-based judel/vrolijk & co., the WallyCento yacht Hamilton has received the Neptune Special Award at the Boat International Magazine’s World Superyacht Awards 2013. At a magnificent ceremony in the Turkish port of Istanbul, the 30-metre maxi sailing yacht Hamilton was recognized by an international jury for her excellent performance.

judel/vrolijk, as a member of the working group DEUTSCHE YACHTEN – Superyachts Germany, designed the world’s first yacht to be built in accordance with the new Wally Cento box rule prescribing narrow specifications as the basis for a Wally racing class.
“The idea behind the Wally Cento formula is for 100-foot yachts which are more or less the same and which pursue two aims. They are intended to be used for cruising but also as racing yachts. They should however come out of this compromise with the highest possible performance potential”, explains renowned yacht designer Rolf Vrolijk from the design office. Hamilton was commissioned by British businessman Charles Dunstone and built in 15 months at Green Marine in England. She was launched in 2012.
The luxury ocean yacht Hamilton fulfills an extreme concept. Because all the trim systems and operations are push-button controlled, theoretically, Hamilton can be handled by a small family crew or even a single-hander. Under racing conditions, however, she is sailed by a crew of 27.

Her 640 m2 of sail on the wind and 970 m2 gennaker downwind accelerate the Wally Cento to over 25 knots thanks to her ultra-lightweight construction using the latest carbon fibre technology (Nomex honeycomb). In fact 29 tonnes of her total weight of just under 50 tonnes hang as ballast in the lifting keel (draught 4.5 to 6.2 metres), giving her the weight ratio of a thoroughbred racing yacht.
The „Hamilton“ is part of Monaco-based Luca Bassani’s Wally family. In cruising mode, she offers space for a paid crew and eight guests, who, as is customary in Wally yachts, lack for nothing on board. Air conditioning, an ice dispenser and an espresso machine, plus a hifi system that would not be out of place in a recording studio – these are just some of the features to keep any owner perfectly happy.
The very finest navigation systems and electronics plus an exclusive interior to plans by Design Unlimited are of course standard in this class. Meanwhile a second Wally Cento superyacht Magic Carpet³ has already been delivered to her owner Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, also British.
