New Feadship 67.27m motor yacht Drizzle launched

January 23, 2012

Feadship has launched the 67.27m (220’8”) motor yacht Drizzle at the Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw yard in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. She has been built for clients who were inspired by the 2005 Feadship super yacht Twizzle, of which they were the second owners and had renamed Drizzle. Although taken by the World Superyacht Award winning vessel, they decided to construct their very own Drizzle, entirely custom-built to their specific preferences. The result is an amazing Drizzle superyacht almost 12 metres longer and proportionally wider, higher and deeper, that still preserves the beauty of the original 55m De Voogt design.

Super yacht Drizzle’s exterior offers a superior blend of classic and modern, with a traditional low profile and contemporary feel. “Taking Twizzle as the design template, it was a major challenge to retain her classic light lines while extending the vessel by over 20 per cent,” says Ruud Bakker from Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects. “We also added further refinements in terms of functionality, such as the central staircase that facilitates both guest and crew access to the sun deck. Drizzle contains the very latest systems and technologies, a reflection of how Feadship is consistently moving forward on every level.”

Redman Whiteley Dixon created a contemporary, warm and rich interior that again takes Twizzle yacht as a reference point before being tailored to the principals’ bespoke taste. “Only months after handover of Twizzle to the new owners, we were discussing the perfect larger version”, says Henk de Vries, “and within months we had defined the new version in detail”. “Drizzle is a fine example of how sophisticated owners have experienced the true difference a Feadship can make in every sense of the word quality,” explains Francis Vermeer, head of marketing at Feadship.

The project manager for the luxury yacht Drizzle was Steve Jacover, who has built several other Feadships over the past two decades. “It was amazing to see how many staff members are still at the yard from previous builds with which I have been involved. As well as highlighting the rich experience at the Feadship yards, it gives me as project manager a complete sense of security that everything will be finished to perfection. And it was.”

The interior feels like a genuine home-from-home and will have a broad appeal while being entirely unique. Crew quarters are taken to an exceptional quality level even by Feadship’s industry-leading standards. “This reflects the owner’s concern for crew welfare and a wish that their facilities should be finished to the highest possible standard,” says Drizzle’s Captain James Duggan.

“Such attention to detail will be greatly appreciated and respected by the crew. Having been at De Vries for a previous build and sailed on two of their yachts, including Twizzle, my experience is that Feadship consistently delivers a fantastic product, which is exactly what we have now. It is a pleasure to work with the entire team at the De Vries yard, all of whom clearly take enormous pride and pleasure in their work. Drizzle is a credit to them and the entire Feadship experience.”

A large and powerful ketch rig together with sleek flowing hull lines and a super-efficient centreboard give Twizzle yacht great performance under sail. The quality of her design and construction and the beauty of her interior styling make this yacht truly unique.

In close collaboration with Redman Whiteley Dixon, who were the interior designers and exterior stylists, Dubois Naval Architect developed the hull and deck layout, sail plan, naval architecture, aluminium structure and propulsion layout into a perfectly integrated package.

Yacht Twizzle’s ‘green’ credentials are particularly commendable. She is certified to the highest standards for operation in the world’s most sensitive marine environments, including Alaska.

Further demonstrating their commitment to the quality of the ocean environment, Twizzle‘s thoughtful owners have put in place a policy to off-set the carbon emissions of all her fuel use. All greenhouse gas emissions arising from Twizzle’s forthcoming cruising programme will be balanced, tonne for tonne, by compensating emissions savings from green energy projects.

Sailing yacht Twizzle is actually the second Dubois design to be built by Royal Huisman Shipyard. The first was a 42ft racing yacht built way back in 1978! It has been a long wait for us to have the pleasure of working with this wonderful organisation again.

Super Sailing yacht Twizzle to carbon offset her fuel and construction

September 03, 2010

Sailing yacht Twizzle the new 57.5m flybridge ketch recently launched by Royal Huisman has introduced a policy of carbon offsetting her fuel.  Her Owner has also chosen to offset the embodied carbon footprint from the energy and principal materials used in her construction.

Megayacht Twizzle is proud of its Green credentials and strives to be exceptionally eco-friendly.  Not only has sailing yacht Twizzle ensured that there is zero discharge into the sea, the yacht is certified to the highest levels for operation in the world’s oceans, including Alaska.

Yacht Carbon Offset has certified that emissions arising from S/Y Twizzle’s forthcoming cruising programme will be balanced tonne for tonne by equivalent emissions savings from green energy projects.  The one-off carbon offset for her construction is based on superyacht Twizzle’s aluminium and steel content, an allowance for other materials and components, and the estimated energy used at the shipyard.

Yacht Carbon Offset’s Managing Director Mark Robinson commented: “We warmly welcome Twizzle to the growing fleet of leading superyachts that have decided to take practical steps to offset their carbon footprint. In particular we are pleased to have enabled her Owner to take this policy further than any other Superyacht to date, by extending the scope to include both the energy and the principal materials of her construction.

We have seen that Carbon Offsetting appeals to many of those that own and enjoy the world’s finest yachts and we thank Twizzle’s Owner and his team for putting this decision into action.”
