A very successful inaugural Singapore ‘APS Captains Party’

May 15, 2013

The first Singapore APS Captains Cocktail Party was sponsored and hosted by Asia Pacific Superyachts Singapore GM Scott Walker, following a great success of this year’s Singapore Yacht Show. The event was held at the Red Lantern Lounge on the rooftop of the Fullerton Bay Hotel.

Attended by a host of yacht crews from the show along with captains visiting Singapore at the time, yachting expert and long time Singapore resident Captain Scott in planning ahead, reported: “We had a great night at a fantastic place and we look forward to more gatherings like this in future years!”

The Captains enthusiastically agreed the Red Lantern Lounge was a fantastic venue as they viewed the spectacular panoramic views over the Singapore CBD skyline and Marina Bay precinct at one of the newest- and best- rooftop bars in Singapore. The luxurious hotel and rooftop bar is adjacent to the historic Clifford Pier on the Marina Bay waterfront in central Singapore. The bar takes its name from the original Chinese description for Clifford Pier – ‘Red Lantern Pier’.

The pier was the landing point for immigrants arriving in Singapore in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Red lanterns were used as a guide for the Captains… hanging from the pier and lighting the way for seafarers. Now, a century later, the site of the ‘Red Lanterns’ was once again the place for captains of international vessels to meet!

Riva 75′ Venere Super Yacht displayed at Singapore Yacht Show 2013

May 07, 2013

Constructed by the prominent Riva shipyard, which has just celebrated 170 years of history, the Riva 75’ Venere Super yacht was showcased at this year’s Singapore Yacht Show, taking place from April 18th to 21st.

“After the establishment of the Ferretti Group Asia Pacific Ltd., based in Hong Kong, and the participation at Hainan Rendez-Vous and China International Boat Show in Shanghai, we are very proud to continue our intense program of participation in major Asia Pacific events unveiling at the Singapore Yacht Show, 75′ Venere Super, one of the top models of Riva, iconic brand in international yachting and symbol of Made in Italy all over the world” said Alessandro Tirelli, Ferretti Group Asia Pacific Sales Director.

75’ Venere Super yacht, latest edition of 75’ Venere, showcases innovative changes to the space and furnishings. Developed by Officina Italiana Design – the exclusive designer of all the yachts in the Riva range – in cooperation with the  team of Ferretti Group’s naval engineers and architects – have been renewed in the interiors and exteriors, with the perfection and painstaking care over detail which are typical to Riva, in order to offer greater comfort during cruising and optimize space.

The flybridge of the new 75’ Venere Super yacht has been enriched with a hard top featuring an elegant, aerodynamic line and a comfortable, six seater sofa ensuring the Owner’s total ease of use. The stern opens out onto a spacious swim platform, the best solution for free time and practicing water sports.

A large window fitted in the hull provides an unusual, very pleasant view of the surface of the water, ensuring more natural light for the guest cabins especially the full-beam Master cabin. The latter features a study area, vanity unit with foldaway pouf, LCD television and walk-in closet. Each cabin has direct access to an en-suite head, and the guest cabins have twin beds that can be pushed together to make one if necessary.

The interior furnishings of luxury yacht Riva 75′ Venere Super have also been altered and improved in the Super version, focusing on a simple, refined style. The use of bleached oak with Africa and sand coloured leather, white lacquer and new colouring of the galley and helm station make the various areas even more elegant and refined.

Removing the stairway from the salon to the flybridge has made it possible to extend the flybridge sundeck and, below deck, to create a more functional galley with new units and a side-by-side fridge-freezer.

Said removal has also made it possible to insert a mirror wall overlooking the salon, which gives this area more depth. The partition wall between the helm station and dinette, now equipped with new motorised leather Venetian blinds, plays on light and depth thanks to the use of steel details and a mirror fitted on the door. Moreover, the new colouring of the leather in the dinette, now also on the ceiling, gives the area a completely different impact to that of the previous version. Another innovation is a new hatchway that allows the easy transfer of plates and food between the galley and the more formal dining area.

As for the serving hatch, when open onto the galley it is set facing the day opening, creating a display case effect. When closed, it separates the dinette area from the galley, guaranteeing Owners and guests complete privacy.

The colour of the hull of the 75′ motor yacht Venere Super by Riva is Roman Bronze and the superstructure Riva Cream.

The standard version of the yacht features twin MTU 10V 2000 M93, power 1524 mhp, which drive her to a top speed of 31,5 knots and a cruise speed of 28 knots. The optional version features twin MTU 10V 2000 M94 power 1623 mhp, delivering a top speed of 32,5 knots and a cruise speed of 29 knots.

Singapore Yacht Show 2013 a Huge Success

May 06, 2013

This year’s Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) has been a great success, being declared as Asia’s most important yachting as well as boating industry event.

Singapore Yacht Show 2013

Singapore Yacht Show 2013

Managing director of organisers Singapore Yacht Events, Andy Treadwell, said the feedback from exhibitors, partners and those who attended the show was incredibly positive, and he was looking forward to an even more spectacular 2014 event. “Everybody who participated is saying that the number and quality of visitors at this year’s show was way beyond their expectations. They all seem to have had significant leads, and significant sales. They all agree that the ONE°15 Marina Club here in Sentosa Cove is the perfect venue for a regional show, and Singapore is the ideal business hub for the future of yachting and boating in Asia,” Mr Treadwell said.

Neil Hornsby, director of Burgess said: “It was incredibly well organised and attracted just the right calibre of clientele, so we were delighted, as indeed were the owners of sailing yacht Twizzle.”

This year’s event attracted more than double the number of last year’s exhibitors, including a significantly wider selection of vessels in the 30ft – 80ft category.

Exhibiting for the first time was Sunseeker Asia, one of the most popular brands worldwide, and represented in Singapore by Daniel Au, who commented: “Sunseeker is absolutely delighted with the outcome of SYS 2013. It is now by far the best show in Asia, with seriously promising results for us – especially in the superyacht range. We are working on several contracts with new clients who we met during the show – and we are confident that most of them will be finalised! The presence of Sunseeker in Singapore is now firmly established, and the success of the Singapore Yacht Show 2013 is a bold testament to the fast developing boating industry in this region.”

Meanwhile Nigel Beatty of Super Yacht Logistics, who attended both the Asia Pacific Superyacht Conference and Yacht Show said: “I was blown away as to how beneficial [the conference] is and I am definitely coming back next year […] the show has been excellent, absolutely excellent. [It] is exceptional… not as big as the Monaco Yacht Show or the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, but it is a high quality show. There is a lot of quality here and that’s what counts.”

The event’s registration provider Go Gorilla recorded over 8,000 visitors to ONE°15 Marina Club over the four days of the show – nearly double last year’s ticketed entries – and a record 11,000 people registered their interest in the show online before and during the event.

Mr Treadwell said he and his team were taking exhibitor feedback on board and were looking forward to increasing, and maximising the on-water display area next year, as per their requests.

SYS 2013 a Huge Success

SYS 2013 a Huge Success

What the industry is saying
Tom Richardson, of Fairline Boats said: “As well as a superb opportunity to display our yachts to hundreds of visitors, we also secured a number of new sales at the show.  The Singapore Yacht Show delivered good footfall and more importantly a large number of quality High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth visitors. The event has certainly proved itself to be one of the leading shows across the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to attending the show again in 2014 and hopefully achieving an even greater success.”

MaryAnne Edwards, CEO of Superyacht Australia thanked managing director of Singapore Yacht Events, Andy Treadwell, for delivering a yachting and boating event “that has all ingredients to be the stand out show for the superyacht sector in the Asian region”.

She said she was impressed by his dedication over the past few years to ensure this event succeeded and grew into an event that would service the needs of the region and be a showcase for how it should be done. “I will certainly be recommending to our superyacht members that they look to participate in the conference and the show next year.”

On the second day of the show, Mark Cavendish, sales director at Heesen Yachts said: “Today I literally just walked on the stand and there was a gentleman from Jakarta who has a 36 metre motor yacht and he was interested in our 40 metre yacht. What more can you ask for.”

“We are very keen to develop the Asian market, because I don’t know how much business there will be in Europe in the next 5 to 10 years,” he added.

Eric Koh of SG Boating added: “Thank you and your tireless crew for putting up a great show and making this a wonderful platform for SG Boating. Great job! Book us for next year!”

Sevenstar expands to the Asian region

May 03, 2013

Benetti-Classic motor yacht

Benetti-Classic motor yacht

Sevenstar is not a newcomer to Asia but the company’s presence is certainly growing, with two new agencies in Singapore and Phuket and an increasing number of Mediterranean and USA-based yachts travelling to the exotic waters of the east,” said Jan Maarten Boissevain, Middle East and Far East line manager for Sevenstar.

In Singapore and Indonesia Sevenstar Yacht Transport is being represented by Jean Jacques Lavigne, who says, “Sevenstar Yacht Transport has been working very hard in developing the region since the moment we started talking about developing a Superyacht Conference five years ago. Between 2005 and 2008 most of the yachts were going to Singapore because of the new marinas and in the last couple of years we have also seen growth coming from Indonesia, Philippines Malaysia.

Speaking about the show Jean Jacques comments, “It has been a very good show. The first show a few years ago was very promising and last year’s show was a bit of a letdown, but this year’s show has been fantastic! Now we are on the right path and the partnership with Arthur Tay of the One 15 Marina Club is also working out very good.”

Superyacht Australia concentrates on Asian Expansion at Singapore Superyacht Conference

April 29, 2013

A number of members of the Australian superyacht industry as well as Superyacht Australia attended the recently held Singapore Superyacht Conference, focusing on the importance of Asia to the superyacht industry in Australia. The conference took place immediately prior to the Singapore Yacht Show and was a great platform for key industry stakeholders to network.

Superyacht Australia CEO MaryAnne Edwards who was a presenter at the conference said “It was refreshing to listen to presentations regarding what is happening in the Asia region that truly told it how it is.  There can be so much misinformation that gets circulated but I have to say this conference was one of the best yet.”

The conference contained some key presentations about the superyacht industry in Indonesia, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Borneo, Japan, Australia and many other Asian countries.  It highlighted the skills, capability and cruising destinations within the region and certainly proved that the superyacht industry in this region is coming of age. MaryAnne Edwards spoke on the growth of the Australian superyacht market, emphasising its capability, quality, skills and iconic cruising grounds.

The 5th annual conference was hailed a resounding success after much anticipation in the lead up to the event. With more than 100 delegates present, the conference covered the regions charter regulations, a presentation on the concentration of HNWI in the region and what we need to be doing to target these individuals.  The resounding comment throughout the conference was the need for all countries to lobby their governments regarding the tourism value of the industry and the significant economic return this industry provides. There was a strong call for the region to collaborate to market its idyllic cruising grounds and its superyacht industry capability to the rest of the world.

Following the conference was the third annual Singapore Yacht Show with more than double the number of exhibitors as last year and many exciting brands and vessels making their Asia debut at the event.

Edwards commended the Managing Director of Singapore Yacht Events, Andy Treadwell, for delivering a yachting and boating event that has all ingredients to be the stand out show for the superyacht sector in the Asian region.  She said she was impressed by his dedication over the past few years to ensure this event succeeded and grew into an event that would service the needs of the region and be a showcase for how it should be done. “I will certainly be recommending to our superyacht members that they look to participate in the conference and the show next year.”

The show has more than doubled their on-water display with a world-class line-up of vessels and brands.

Edwards was also complimentary of the amazing facilities that Marina One15 has to offer, “I have been able to see a dream become a reality” she said. “The W hotel and the significant selection of restaurants seem to have sprung up overnight. This is the perfect venue for a superyacht show, congratulations to Arthur Tay and Andy Treadwell for their foresight to drive this event for the region.”

Andy Treadwell, managing director of Singapore Yacht Events said he was looking at potential collaborations with all the shows in the region. “I see huge potential in what my team can do in Asia,” Mr Treadwell said.

Singapore Yacht Events will help promote Yacht CN 2013 – Nansha Bay International Boat Show, held in October 2013.

Erik Fok, commodore of Nansha Marina said China presents very exciting opportunities for the yachting industry and he looks forward to working collaboratively with Singapore Yacht Events.

Nansha Marina in Guangzhou is rapidly becoming an important hub for marine leisure and boating in Southern China, and is just one hour’s drive from Hong Kong and Macau.

The Nansha Bay International Boat Show launched in October last year, attracting more than 50 exhibitors and 60 vessels.

Meanwhile the Singapore Yacht Show, now in its third year, has more than doubled its number of exhibitors and visitors, showcasing an unparalled selection of boats, yachts and superyachts, as well as luxury cars, fine art and international fashion.

Exhibitors are reporting promising discussions they expect to convert to sales by the end of the week. “In terms of the significance of the yacht show, and the quality of its exhibitors this year, there is little doubt that the Singapore Yacht Show is playing a very significant part in positioning Singapore as the South East Asia business hub for the international yachting and boating industry,” Mr Treadwell said.

William Schick general manager of Premium Nautical said: “This is the best and biggest crowd I have seen at any boat show in Singapore in the nine years since I arrived.”

Mark Cavendish sales director at Heeson Yachts said
: “Compared to last year, I see enormous changes as first of all there are all these megayachts out in the marina, which is very encouraging for us. And the number of visitors, from the feeling of it is much, much higher than before.”

Superyachts M/Y I Dynasty and S/Y Twizzle have added to the excitement by making their boat show debuts at Singapore Yacht Show, whilst the hugely innovative day cruisers by Italian brand Wider Yachts exhibit in Asia for the first time.

Today is the final day of Singapore Yacht Show 2013, held at ONE°15 Marina Club, open until 8pm. Admission is $50.
