Malta’s leading superyacht supplier, Salvo Grima and Sons Ltd, has recently received two five star reviews for the high quality of its service. Captain Trevor Appleby from motor yacht Samax left a five-star review for this Malta company. “Salvo Grima has been supplying M/Y Samax with most of her needs for the past 12 years. Salvo Grima has the right people!” he said.

Captain Rob O’Donoghue from superyacht Serenity, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, left equally positive feedback. He said
, “I’ve sailed in and out of Malta for over 10 years on a number of 50-metre-plus vessels, done two refits, and run numerous owners trips. I have always used Salvo Grima and they have never disappointed in service, price and understanding of yachting requirements.”

Salvo Grima is not the only business which has been reviewed on the website of Yachting Pages, Sara Gioanola from Oss, Noord Brabant, reviewed the website of The Yacht Photo. She said, “Working with the Yacht Photo is a great pleasure and we are very pleased about the quality of the images that they provide us with. “Trip of a lifetime” or cruising Turkey aboard charter yacht SERENITY 86

October 22, 2012

It is always a great pleasure to receive a feedback from our customers, saying that they enjoyed their charter vacation, many times exceeding their expectations. One of the numerous feedbacks received is that of a “trip of a lifetime” aboard the beautiful sailing yacht SERENITY 86 in Turkey. Although the 2012 summer season for Turkey yacht charters is over, this lovely vessel is a great choice for tranquil late autumn cruises around the spectacular coasts of this popular Mediterranean country. Luxury Turkish gullet Serenity 86 was built by Mural Yachts in Istanbul, offering the perfect solution for those seeking comfort, class, great service and a truly luxurious sailing experience.

SERENITY 86 - Sailing

SERENITY 86 - Sailing

Comfortable accommodation is provided to eight guests in two double and two twin cabins, in addition to spacious decks to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

“The boat is meticulously maintained. The bright & varnish work look as if they were finished yesterday. The decks are as smooth as silk without blemish. All guests were barefoot the entire time with no splinters or nicks due to rough spots. The condition of the interior cabins, heads, showers are all essentially brand new. Everything is ship shape at all times: sheets coiled, fenders stored and hung in their spots on the bow when not in use, everything in its place.”, as described by one of Serenity’s guests that chartered Serenity 86 this summer.

Bright, airy and modern are the words that can describe Serenity’s interior, designed to blend with the traditional beauty of this contemporary Turkish gullet. Her saloon boasts modern leather stools, chrome and glass allowing plenty of natural light to penetrate inside the boat as well as LCD TV screen, which adds to her modern feeling.

Charter guests aboard sailing yacht SERENITY 86 can enjoy the vast outside spaces, incorporating the comfortable dining areas, relax on the sun-deck or engage in a host of activities thanks to a great selection of yacht toys and equipment such as kayaks and water skis.

“Serenity sails much like a cat — she needs a slight or broad reach to move along but in 10-13 kts sailed quite comfortably and when we had a day of 25+kts of breeze was up to 10+ kts and holding her head quite nicely. We sailed most days but one when there was no breeze and when we were returning up the coast into the wind. Under motor she averages 7-10 kts depending on how far we needed to go.”

“She is simply in another class than most of the Gullets we observed during our cruising.”

Unwind and feel the Serenity or professional and attentive crew that makes you smile …

One of the most important aspects when it comes to chartering a motor yacht or a sailing yacht is the level of service provided to guests on board. While on their much deserved holiday, charter guests want to feel pampered, relaxed and attended to, but at the same time feel comfortable, uninvaded and at home. Team of four professional and friendly crew, including the Captain, two Deckhands and the talented Chef are there to fulfil their guests’ wishes, exceeding all expectations and providing a memorable and impressive service to all.

“Captain Mehmet, former navy, runs a very tight ship. The crew is always dressed neatly and appropriately (change twice daily). They are polite, friendly (all have a great sense of humor) and very attentive to all the needs of the guests, including picking up after them when books, phones, glasses etc are left unattended. (they are placed in a catch-all storage basket in the salon – the “find-it” bin).”

Sailing Yacht Serenity 86 - Saloon

“The crew is professional in every respect, anticipating all needs and accommodating all requests within their range of capabilities. They operate as a well oiled team when berthing, raising or lowering sails, anchoring or simply under sail.”

“Sheets are changed twice a week, towels twice a day. Swimming towels are numbered & kept in a storage container on the after deck. There is a washer & dryer on board should the need arise to wash clothes. Wireless was available 90% of the time. It was only down in isolated parts of the coast line or when anchored in a steep bay where signals were blocked. Air conditioning was available 24 hrs per day. (Serenity has two generators one of which is operating 24 hrs a day.) Fresh water tank holds 4000 litres and the water maker produces 180 litres per hour so no restriction on showers. Showers are as powerful as a home shower and hot water is plentiful.”

Turkish Culinary Delights …

Turkish cuisine reflects a fusion of two very diverse continents – Asia and Europe. In addition to the traditional shish kebabs and raki, the Turkish dishes are filled with plenty of fresh vegetables, wonderful spices and meze that can be coupled with great wine.

Turkish Meze

Turkish Meze

Serenity yacht’s professional chef prepares mouthwatering and healthy dishes to suit everyone’s desires:

“The cook performs miracles! In two weeks we have had only a few duplicate dishes but never entire meals. The meze were healthy and delicious and the main courses of fish, lamb, chicken and beef all cooked to perfection. The presentation was artful such as you would see in a 4 star restaurant. We had fresh fruit morning, noon and night as well as specially prepared desserts including ice cream, biscuits and cakes.”

“The quality of meals was far beyond our expectations and an amazing tribute to the chef who worked tirelessly in the large galley, but to the extent you never really observed any untidiness that would normally be associated with cooking a meal for 8 persons. Truly a professional in all respects. Breakfasts were amazing, with coffee, tea, cereals, cheese, yogurt, a wide variety of fresh fruit, toast and eggs to order. We even had crepes included one morning.”

Chartering a luxury gullet in Turkey or cruising aboard Serenity …

Turkey has become one of the most popular luxury yacht charter destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean, boasting more coastlines than any other country in the Mediterranean, with plenty of stunning anchorages to choose from. This is how Serenity’s guests described their cruising experience:

“The two weeks  from Bodrum to Fethiye and Fethiye via Kekova back to Fethiye represented a marvellous view of the Turkish coast. There was a variety of views and coastline as well as interesting sites to visit during our cruise. The routine was to anchor every evening in a secluded bay or cove; relax and swim before cleaning up for dinner, then simply enjoying the evening. Awake in the morning for b’fast, morning swim and then head off for an afternoon anchorage to repeat the swim, lunch, relax routine and then head to our evening anchorage.”

“The visits to Symi and  Kalkan where we anchored in port were both nice breaks although our group was not overly impressed with Symi and found it to be a bit pricey although it was scenic and a nice walk about. Kalkan was a lovely spot and our dinner ashore was  much enjoyed by all.”

Pamukkale

And to sum up the charter experience aboard Serenity superyacht …

“All in all this was the trip of a lifetime that far exceeded the expectations of all on board. We credit your recommendation to select “Serenity 86″ and the professionalism and warmth of the crew as well as the quality of the boat for the result.”

“…thanks to you for your knowledge, professionalism, follow through and focus that made all this possible.”

Maldives – a world favorite for a superyacht cruising journey

May 07, 2012

Becoming one of the best superyacht destinations in the world, the Maldives Archipelago, boasts groups of 26 atolls in completely natural formation, with a small number of islands inhabited, waiting to be discovered.

Aerial Rihiveli Sunrise Island

The flat islands are formed from coral layers, the highest point rarely being more than 6’ above sea level. Located in the Indian Ocean 670 km south-west of Sri Lanka and covering an area of 300 km, they are protected from monsoon devastation by barrier reefs and rarely suffer from major storms.

These Maldives archipelago miniscule coral islets of deep blue seas offer fantastic cruising adventures with the waterways providing the best and most natural of transport and overhead weather generally picture perfect – sunlit days, breezy nights, balmy mornings and iridescent sunsets.

Long stretches of sugar-white beaches are sanctuary to countless sea birds and extensive coral reefs host an endless variety of exotic fish and marine life. The islands provide a home for the annual migration of Whale Sharks and Mantra Rays and throughout the Maldives Whale Sharks are found patrolling very close to the surface, making the Maldives an ideal destination for snorkelers in any season.

The largest fish on the planet, the Whale Shark (Rhincodon Typus) can grow up to 40’ in length and is a fascinating creature to behold. With no known predators (except humans) and a completely peaceful nature they are huge, harmless and sublime. Despite its incredible size the Whale Shark feeds, like its namesake, almost entirely on plankton and small fish. They are most plentiful near Baa Atoll through July and August, when plankton is at the highest level. Because they pose no real threat to humans, diving with these gentle giants in the Maldives has become a favorite adventure. Other gigantic fish often seen in the area include Manta Rays, Napoleon Wrasse and Reef Shark; and large Sea Turtles are relatively common.

Arriving Superyachts start their adventure at the Capital island of Malé, lying north and located among the miniscule coral islets of the Maldives’ nature-rich archipelago. Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS) Maldives provides visiting vessels a wide range of services with a head office in Malé and branches in the Northern Part of HA, Uligan (North Thiladhunmathi Atoll) and the Southern Part of S. Gan (Addu Atoll). Mohamed Hameed, founder of APS Maldives and a multi-generational resident, and APS director, Arif Abdul Samad, offer the following sample itinerary for an extraordinary trip on one´s own yacht or a luxury charter yacht.

SAMPLE ITINERARY (courtesy of Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives)

1st Day Kuda Bandos
Situated in Malé Atoll Kuda Bandos is a breathtaking island a shout away from the main island, Bandos. It is ideal for a first day private sunset beach picnic after reef snorkeling & swimming in a clear blue lagoon, as your boat’s needs are all taken care of.

2nd Day Olhahali Island
This beautiful island lies at the northern tip of North Malé Atoll on the north near One & Only Reetha Rah and offers the special attraction of the Olhahali Cave. There are several smaller caves and a big cave 40 metres long at a depth of 25 metres, the main attraction.

3rd Day Dusit Thani Resort on Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll
A beautiful sanctuary sheltered by nature amidst white sandy beaches and encircled by a turquoise lagoon, 100 top of the line guest villas are situated amongst the natural waterways. The Dusit Thani is fast becoming well known for frequent sightings of Dolphins and Sea Turtles and the resort’s ‘living house reef’ is a snorkeler’s paradise. Special dinners and sand spit picnics/set ups in their area for yacht guests and crew can be arranged as well as visits to the wonderful reef that surrounds Mudhdhoo (advance permission required).

4th Day Nibiliga Island
A small but exclusive island and an add-on for those who wish to spend an extra day in the pristine natural beauty of Baa Atoll; Nibiligaa is one of the uninhabited islands of Baa Atoll. Located in the Mendhoo Region are: Nibiligaa Island and reef, Mendhoo Island and reef, Mendhoobinmathee Faru and Kaburu Faru.

5th Day Gemendhoo Island
If time permits, Gemendhoo is a ‘must visit’ island before making the return journey to Malé. This beautiful and small island in Baa Atoll has one of the finest and cleanest of the beaches in the Maldives.

Major changes are being implemented to support conservation and preservation efforts in the above locations and throughout many of the beautiful areas in the Maldives. Among the important changes are those in the diving regulations at Hanifaru Bay at Baa Atoll, outlined under the “Hanifaru Management Plan” of the Baa Atoll Conservation Program.

A popular international dive location, the change at Hanifaru Bay from diving and snorkeling to ‘only snorkeling’ was made to minimise the potentially negative impact from divers on the Manta Rays and Whale Sharks; however, diving is still permitted on the outer area of Hanifaru Bay and the rest of Baa Atoll.

Changes like these brought about the coveted distinction of the entire Baa Atoll being declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve – a distinction awarded to an area of natural excellence recognised for its unique harmony between man and nature.

Many resorts are implementing practices to protect the reefs and marine life due to dire warnings of future danger and the Dusit Thani Maldives is one of the leaders in sustainable resort development in the Maldives; geared toward achieving a carbon-neutral programme and implementing structures to support the live coral reefs.

Supporting superyachts on the Maldives and a member of the Association of Yacht Support Services (AYSS), APS Maldives founder Mohamed, with 15-year experience in the marine and tourism industry, welcomes new arrivals to join past APS superyacht clients, including: Ambrosia; motor yacht Annaeva; charter yacht Cloud 9; superyacht Family Day C; luxury yacht Plan B; megayacht Golden Odyssey; Golden ShadowTalisman-C megayacht; Ilona; superyacht Mayan Queen; Meduse; megayacht Sunrays; luxury yacht Octopus; charter yacht Lauren L; M/Y Anna; charter yacht Q.M of London; Samax superyacht; Serenity; M/Y Shandor; Sinbad; luxury yacht Slipstream; charter yacht Alexandra; Calisto; Valkyrie; sailing yacht Alithia; Anekena; charter yacht Red Dragon; luxury yacht Enterprise; S/Y Foftein; charter yacht Grandbleu; charter yacht Mysterysuperyacht  Juliet; charter yacht Perseus; and Squall.

Heesen Yachts deliver SERENITY superyacht

January 25, 2012

Heesen Yachts are happy to announced the delivery of their largest displacement vessel to date – the motor yacht SERENITY. Launched in December, 2011, superyacht SERENITY has undergone intensive testing in the rough water of the North Sea and her delivery has been recently completed.

M/Y Serenity is a 55m milestone in this Dutch Shipyard’s history: Heesen Yachts was already a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of all-aluminium, semi-displacement fast yachts in 1992 when they entered the traditional steel displacement yacht market with the launch of the 50metre motor yacht Achiever in collaboration with Oceanco. Since then they have successfully built 15 long-range full-displacement vessels, confirming their ability in this very competitive field. Their order book currently runs until 2015 and includes three full-displacement vessels.

The elegant exterior lines of the superyacht SERENITY have been drawn by the creative pencil of Frank Laupman and express the typical Heesen style with its ‘pelican beak’ bow – a negative sheer that is their trademark. In-house Heesen naval architects worked closely with Van Oossanen and Associates to create this well-founded hull with a trans-oceanic range of 6,000Nm at 10 knots. Perry van Oossanen, from Van Oossanen and Associates comments: “The hull form of YN 15555, MY Serenity, is the final development of the Heesen displacement hull form, which has already proven itself over the last 10 years. It is a good, comfortable and seaworthy hull, with a well-designed “traditional” flared bow, allowing for a minimum of green water on deck.”

Sea trials in severe weather conditions proved the design’s worth during the month of December 2011. “We had a typical winter sea trial on the North Sea with force 6-7 winds and 3m swells. It was commented by all onboard how well the boat handled in a big sea. She easily exceeded her design speed so overall I am very happy that we will deliver a yacht that will be well suited for world travelling as she was designed for.” Hans Doodkorte, Owner’s technical manager.

Luxury motor yacht Serenity’s contemporary interior, with classic touches, has been designed by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects. High gloss and polished maple with burled maple veneers have been used throughout the vessel for both panelling and cabinetry. Eleven different types of marble, including calacatta marble, Iranian gold onyx, fiorito and breccia paradiso have been carefully and skilfully crafted into concave and convex curves as well as being cut extremely thinly. The use of blond veneer and creamy toned stones combine to give a light and airy feel to the spacious interior. This peaceful and harmonious atmosphere is further enhanced by bespoke glass decorations. A leafy motif has been used for decorating the top of the partition that divides the main saloon into lounging and dining areas, while the ceiling above the bed in the Owner’s stateroom has been re-imagined as a sky adorned with fluffy clouds. The motifs were designed by Omega Architects and created by Glass Déco artisans by gluing together multiple glass and mirror layers. This celestial atmosphere also resonates in the name the Owner has chosen for his vessel.

Twelve guests are amply accommodated in six cabins aboard Serenity yacht. The Owner’s suite is traditionally located on the main deck forward, but its layout is right up-to-date; a vast circular master bedroom boasts balconies on both sides and floor-to-ceiling windows bathing it in light. A studio plus bathroom with a sumptuous central oval bath tub and adjacent shower stall completes the master suite. The lower deck accommodates the guests: the full-beam VIP cabin has a full-sized tub, the two double and two twin cabins have shower rooms. Guests can choose between sun and shade, heat or cool on the sundeck. As well as having sun-bathing pads and a mosaic custom Jacuzzi pool outside, there is also an enclosed spa area complete with steam bath, sauna and massage room.
