Curvelle is pleased to announce completion of the hull of the catamaran yacht Quaranta, in close cooperation with Logos Marine as principal build contractor. Four years of development went into the 33m Curvelle Catamaran Yacht Poject, which resulted in a hull that boasts many innovative design features and some unique selling points.

With Lila Lou taking on interior and exterior styling and Incat Crowther onboard as specialist catamaran naval architects, the power catamaran Quaranta’s design has already proven to be an award-winning one. Due to a flexible layout, instigated by Luuk V. van Zanten, the main driver behind the project, the vessel’s six double cabins can be converted into three VIP suites, six twins, doubles or any combination of these, while still comfortably topping crew space requirements in compliance with strict new crew accommodation regulations. To assure optimal panorama views, all guest cabins on the motor yacht Quaranta are located on the main deck and fitted with huge 2.5m x 0.9m windows, accommodating a company of up to twelve guests.

The RINA has certified M/Y Quaranta with their unrestricted range-classification for commercial yachts and as a third edition MCA. Measuring 33.70 x 9 metres, she will be an ocean-going catamaran with the interior space equivalent of a 40 metres monohull vessel, due to her four deck layout, and her two metres of extra beam.

Luuk comments: “With her transatlantic range and a cruising speed of 22 knots, the Curvelle quaranta will be on the market at a highly competitive introductory price, staying well below 10 million Euros”. This means quaranta approximately halves the common price of a monohull vessel, similar in volume and performance.

With construction solely based on in-house funding, the Quaranta motor yacht is currently in full production in Tuzla, Istanbul, with a delivery set for November 2012.

Lila-Lou’s Curvelle Catamaran Superyacht

May 11, 2010

Written by Mike Smith

The Lila-Lou Designed Curvelle Luxury Catamaran Superyacht

The LILA-LOU Design Studio has recently revealed their strikingly modern interior and decks for a highly acclaimed 33-metre motor catamaran: the Curvelle 33X9.

Curvelle was set up in 2004 to create a team of naval architects and specialist cat designers and exhibited at the Abu Dhabi World Energy Summit in 2009 with designs for a new part solar, part diesel powered superyacht.  “Over the last decade, there’s been a real buzz in commercial markets about the benefits of catamarans over monohulls”, says the Curvelle website. “For very good reasons. Catamarans are simply more efficient and far more stable. Our yachts cruise equally well at speeds between 10 and 25 knots and, because of their highly efficient hull design, use far less engine power and fuel. And with about 50% more space to play with than a comparable monohull.” The yachts are designed by naval architects Incat Crowther of Sydney, Australia, and built by Cheoy Lee, the ISO-certified Chinese shipyard known for the quality and durability of their commercial vessels and private yachts.

The difference is that these yachts are designed for both private and fractional ownership. Owners can buy one or more eighth shares to enjoy all the pleasure of a superyacht at a fraction of the commitment. “A management company services and crews the yacht on your behalf and you share in the running costs. The carefully selected, highly-skilled crew is made of up of a captain, engineer, two stewardesses, chef and a deckhand.
Your share guarantees you three weeks summer cruising in the Mediterranean and two in the Caribbean winter season every year.
At any time in either season when the yacht’s not being used, you and the other members can decide to charter it and share in the profits.”

Curvelle Catamaran Superyacht

Founded in 2005, the LILA-LOU design team has won much industry attention with their exterior designs for Ankida (a 73-metre sailing yacht), G108 (a 108-metre motoryacht) and the Double L Explorer, (a 47-metre motoryacht), among others. As such, LILA-LOU has been commissioned to develop three further projects for the Curvelle brand, including a 43-metre catamaran and a 25-metre solar yacht, utilising some of the most progressive technical solutions.

Salon

Curvelle Director, Luuk V. van Zanten has been working directly with LILA-LOU partner, Alexander Isaac, previously Associate Director of Bannenberg Designs. “We have exceptional space in the 33X9 due to its catamaran design”, Van Zanten commented. “The nine-metre beam offered our designers the freedom to develop something really special for our customers. The yacht already provides huge space advantages over an equivalent length monohull, so we have given the interior design that something special in quality, flexibility and breathtaking contemporary styling.”

The Catamaran Sundeck

Lila-Lou is also in the process of producing a second more contemporary exterior stled yacht.

Alexander Isaac says “A contract has been signed with the Cheoy Lee yard and building is due to start in October with an anticipated construction time of 13 months. I would say the flexibility of the guest accommodation is the standout feature: six guest cabins—either double or twins or a combination thereof—can be converted into three suites with sitting rooms, or a combination of any of those arrangements.”
