The awards gala took place on the 4th of May 2013 at the Çırağan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul, Turkey. The studio is very happy with this fine example of an up speed project being acknowledged with an award! Superyacht Faith has been refitted in only four months.

Sundeck
According to the clients’ wishes the whole sundeck has been modified into a large and open deck layout. This has been achieved by removing the helideck and jacuzzi on the aft deck. The new swimming pool with sunbathing beds on the foredeck is fully integrated with the existing structure.

To be able to take the extra loads we have performed extensive calculations and verifications on board. Azure’s calculation results enabled Composite Works to start building the composite pool and structure, which prevented any welding damage to the original superstructure. The result is an ideal area for various types of leisure such as; sunbathing, swimming, clubbing, dining and lounging.

Another request by the owner was reducing the sound- and vibration levels of the Faith yacht. Azure achieved this by modifying the generator foundations, which resulted in a superb noise and vibration reduction.

Finally Azure would like to congratulate all parties involved in the project with this award!

World Superyacht Award 2013 for motor yacht A2 refitted by Pendennis

May 10, 2013

The annual World Superyacht Awards recognizes the best superyacht projects delivered each year. Pendennis is delighted to confirm that the 47m motor yacht A2, previously known as Masquerade of Sole, has become the Winner of the ‘Rebuilt Motor Yacht’ category at the prestigious awards ceremony, taking place in the magnificent Çırağan Palace Kempinski, Istanbul on the 4th May.

Toby Allies, Sales & Marketing Director, commented “This recognition is testament to the level of quality and excellence that the Pendennis team strived for during A2’s 16-month visit to the yard in Falmouth. The refit objective on A2 was to completely transform the 1983-built yacht into one reflective of modern design and technology, both externally and internally. The results are impressive as the yacht is now completely unrecognizable from her former self.”

The extent of the work is apparent when comparing photographs of her before and after the rebuild. The initial phase of the project was to strip the superyacht A2 down to her bare steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Following this, structural engineers at BMT Nigel Gee worked alongside the technical team at Pendennis to design a five metre extension across three levels, increasing her LOA from 42.5m to 47m, thereby substantially enhancing the inboard social areas, including an additional impressive full width Owner’s lounge area.

John Bonafoux, Managing Director at BMT Nigel Gee, explained “Our experience of working with Pendennis on a number of projects has been hugely positive. Their professionalism and approach to yacht building delivers vessels of the highest quality, as well as a highly enjoyable experience for both the owner and project partners such as BMT Nigel Gee.”

The owner appointed New York based Peter Marino Architect to design the contemporary and luxurious Owner and Guest areas, creating an architecturally-influenced, dramatic interior space. Peter Marino has created a visually exciting design throughout: bleached oak bulkheads balanced with dark palmwood interiors, whilst textured leather walls are balanced by clean-lined furniture, and contemporary patterned upholstery complemented by stylish high-art pieces.

The experienced engineering team at Pendennis was given a unique opportunity on this project, as the rebuild required re-engineering of all systems. This involved installation of new deck equipment, a complete rebuild of the engine room, installation of modern bridge technology and new state-of-the-art AV equipment. Pendennis completely redesigned and rewired the vessel’s electrical system, creating a highly efficient and effective power management system. This challenge allowed the team to use their impressive experience to recommend and plan the most appropriate design and performance-led systems for this type of yacht.

Launched in 2012, during the 3rd Pendennis Cup, luxury yacht A2 is testament to the company’s 25 years’ experience, with many members of the project team having worked at Pendennis since it was founded in 1988. It is projects such as A2 that showcase Pendennis’ in-house expertise across all trade areas from paint to engineering, interior finishing to fabrication, highlighting the world class craftsmanship that exists locally in Cornwall.

Motor yacht A2 is currently on her way to an exploration of Alaska. The Captain, Peter Pexton, said: “We left Pendennis on the 4th July 2012 and now, 10 months and 16,000 miles later, we are in Vancouver, Canada. A2 has been very busy since her rebuild and I can proudly say that she has performed beautifully. Pendennis did an excellent job on rebuilding the vessel. It was an enormous job, involving a very large work force from all departments.  The quality of the work carried out by Pendennis is excellent and their follow up after leaving the yard is very thorough and helpful even though the yacht is now on the far side of the world. The summer plans for A2 are to cruise British Columbia and Alaska before heading to San Francisco for the America’s Cup.”

World Superyacht Award 2013 for WallyCento luxury yacht HAMILTON designed by Design Unlimited

May 10, 2013

The spectacular 30-metre WallyCento luxury yacht Hamilton added another award to her growing collection earlier this week, when she won a judges’ special award for performance, in the Sailing Yacht 30-39m category, at the 2013 World Superyacht Awards. The styling as well as lovely interior, both by Design Unlimited, played an important role in Hamilton yacht’s receiving the recognition of the international jury, tasked with choosing the winners.

In their citation the judges referred to her ‘comfortable, relaxing interior ambience’ and her ‘premium quality interior’. It was these attributes, combined with her exceptional performance and technical excellence, which led to her being marked out for the special award.

In recent years Design Unlimited has gained a reputation for designing interiors for high performance sailing yachts that deliver all the comforts required for family cruising yet use materials and build techniques that keep the weight to the absolute minimum. The layouts also ensure that they work equally well for racing and family crews, with the necessary facilities for both conveniently yet pleasingly positioned.

The attraction of these high quality, high performance ‘cruiser / racers’ in the 20 to 40+ metre range is expected to grow as they offer a dual solution to owners who want to win on the race course and yet enjoy time with friends and family on board their own boats when time permits.

“We’re delighted that Hamilton was awarded this prize and our thanks go out to the judges and all those who worked alongside us to make her such a successful boat,” said Design Unlimited’s Mark Tucker. “Modern materials and build techniques allow us to achieve things that were impossible just a few years ago, but above all it was a pleasure to work with the owner to create an interior that he will enjoy whatever kind of sailing he is doing.”

WallyCento Yacht HAMILTON – First Grand Prix Racing Yacht to Receive World Superyacht Award

May 10, 2013

Launched by Green Marine in Summer 2012, the majestic 100ft WallyCento yacht Hamilton has received a coveted Neptune award at the 2013 World Superyacht Awards, presented by Boat International Media in Istanbul earlier this week. Sailing yacht Hamilton was honoured with a Judge’s Special Award for Performance, in the Sailing Yacht 30-39m category. She represents the first contemporary racing yacht to win at the World Superyacht Awards.

The award was the result of Hamilton yacht’s achievement in combining high performance with a comfortable, relaxing interior.  The judges also recognised the exceptional challenge that Green Marine and its partners faced in creating a yacht that was both remarkably light for its size, yet capable of managing enormous loads when in racing trim. They summed up their verdict by saying: “The judges felt that this combination of thoroughbred Grand Prix racer and luxury cruising yacht, with a premium quality interior executed to the highest levels of craftsmanship, was well deserving of a Neptune.”

The award was received at the gala dinner by Marcel Müller, Managing Director of Green Marine, who later said: “We were lucky to undertake this project in partnership with a great team of designers, engineers, project managers and builders for an owner who had a clear vision in mind.

“As well as naval architects judel/vrolijk and interior designers and overall stylists Design Unlimited, I should particularly mention the fantastic contributions from project manager James Stagg who was instrumental in keeping the project on schedule, and Struik & Hamerslag UK who built the beautiful lightweight interior.”

One of the judges at the ceremony was heard to say that yachts like Hamilton were ideal for young, successful businessmen who wanted to own boats of the highest standard that had enough comfort for a weekend trip with family or friends, but at the same time were highly competitive and sexy. Another added that even though Hamilton did not look like a ‘normal’ superyacht, its build quality was to superyacht standards and hence it well deserved a superyacht award.
