Legends live on
From September 21st, the town of Cannes will welcome with open arms an array of Gaff rigs, schooners, cutters, sloops, yawls, J Class, one-designs and 12 Metre Class… the event will represent an exceptional gathering, with some of the biggest and most famous yachts from the last century like the the majestic charter yacht Elena (55 metres, by Nathanaël Herreshoff), sailing yacht Cambria (40 metres, by William Fife), superyacht Mariquita (38,20 metres, by William Fife), Sunshine (38 metres, by William Fife Jr), the J Class charter yacht Shamrock V (36,50 metres by Charles Nicholson) and the two Moonbeam III and charter yacht Moonbeam IV (31 metres, by William Fife).

What better an occasion to admire the purity of the yacht lines, the shining woods and stylish and talented crew competing in such elegance? Like film stars, they will show off their flair and charm sailing off the îles de Lérins. Everyone will have the opportunity to watch them and be fascinated by these legendary yachts, many classed as part of historical maritime heritage, as they gracefully liven up the sea with colour and life.

Dragons

The Dragons will rally to the world-famous bay this autumn for one of the most beautiful class gatherings where more than fifty boats are expected to compete with Russian reigning champion Anatoly Loginov (Annapurna) returning to defend his title. Anticipation for Les Régates Royales is already growing.

Metre classes are back
Cannes will see the return of the Metre classes this year. The 5, 5, 6, 8 and 12 IM metric classes will be back this year and will be accompanied by new classes like the Requins or the et Broad One Design (BOD).

35th Birthday
In 2013, Cannes will celebrate the 35th edition of the revived Régates Royales, one of the oldest races since the first edition was held in 1929, in honour of King Christian X of Denmark. The Yacht Club de Cannes is also one of the oldest in France, having been founded in the spring of 1859 when Messieurs Béchard, Tripet-Skrypitzone de Colquhoum and Bucquet created the Société des Régates. The first racing event organised in the bay of La Napoule saw the likes of large yachts such as Léro, Olga, Jeannette and Touriste rally with smaller sailing yachts as well as several local fishermen’s rowing boats

The Société des Régates de Cannes and the Yacht Club de Cannes have been organising the Régates Royales for over 8 years. The event is supported by the Cannes municipality that once again will be an essential backer for the event and by main sponsor Panerai.

New motor yacht MCY 86 by Monte Carlo Yachts to make premiere at Cannes Boat Show 2013

May 24, 2013

The Italian yard, Monte Carlo Yachts, part of Groupe Bénéteau, announces the upcoming official premiere of its new motor yacht MCY 86 at the 2013 Cannes Boat Show. The Monte Carlo Yachts 86 yacht is the fourth model in the successful collection. It brings more space for technology and represents the Monte Carlo Yachts’ original concept of luxury, with an unrivalled degree of customization.

The new superyacht MCY 86 takes the yard’s product range to a new level: a larger, more spacious and more exquisite yacht which meets the needs of boat lovers who want to enjoy every instant on board to the maximum.

Made in Italy, Made in France
MCY 86 yacht again keeps the promise of bringing together sensitive Italian tailoring with the productive capacity of Groupe Bénéteau, which is a world-renowned model of technological and industrial efficiency.

The technical and aesthetic elements blend together, efficient production brings out both the care with which it is made and also the search for exclusive details. The best of Made in France and the best of Made in Italy. It is an approach which is confirmed by the contribution made to the yacht by some big names in the fashion and style world: the living areas of the boat are actually embellished by fabrics and material from Hermès, Armani, Frau and Pierre Frey.

Made in Monte Carlo Yachts
Luxury yacht MCY 86 shows herself to be a real expression of the approach and the style of Monte Carlo Yachts, starting from the strong family resemblance of its external lines. The design of the whole range is by Nuvolari and Lenard. The two designers, who have some amazing mega yacht designs in their portfolio, have reached a new high with this project.

The novelty lies in the absolute beauty of a decisive approach which can soften once on the sea: the perfect choice for a boat which can be relied on for top-level nautical performance and which looks to offer elegance in every detail. Contemporary refinement which does not give in to minimalism, Nuvolari and Lenard have designed a classically-styled boat, without compromising with retro tastes or irritating aerodynamic excesses.

Made together with Yacht Owners
The new MCY 86 yacht increases the range of customization and offers an experience of made-to-measure luxury. Radically different configurations which mean that each owner can personalize the yacht to fit their own lifestyle.

The layout variants include all three decks, with three, four or five below-deck cabins and different distributions of the rooms on the main deck and the flybridge. All of which means a constant assurance of exceptional levels of livability.

Creating space for elegance and comfort
There is an immediate – and extraordinary – feeling of space and comfort from the very first step on the main deck. The stern area, which is completely separate from the extended flybridge, offers guests a large area normally associated with larger vessels. The steel and glass fashion plates which are a feature of Monte Carlo Yachts further increase the feeling of privacy on board.

The foredeck design – which is a highly distinctive part of the range – is expressed to the full here. The Portuguese deck leads to an exquisitely private living room. A real lounge which adapts to different uses during the whole day on board. The extensive area is ideal for using large sun loungers, comfortable sofas and a table where meals can also be eaten in the shade, enjoying the sea view with one’s family and guests in a space which is both open and private. You have the certainty of being on board a mega yacht: no other vessel of under 30 metres is capable of providing an area comparable to this.

Superyacht MCY 86 - Dining

Superyacht MCY 86 - Dining

The flybridge can be fitted with a large Jacuzzi. The bar area, the open-air kitchen and the numerous sunbathing and living areas can be protected with a carbon fibre T-top with soft-top and electrical opening, another characteristic element of the MCY collection.

In the interior, the living room fulfills all the promise of the external spaces: the area and space increase in a succession of luxurious and comfortable living areas, which are ideal for conversation, entertainment, relaxation or dinners with guests. Another new aspect on the 86-foot boat are the opening side platforms. Available on both sides, they can be transformed into exclusive terraces overlooking the sea, giving unequalled, unobstructed views of the horizon even from inside the MCY 86 yacht.

Below-deck layouts are also made to measure. The rooms are always spacious and are embellished with highly-prized materials in all the numerous variants available. The height of comfort can be seen in the master cabin: a truly full-beam suite with a sizeable office and large walk-in cupboard.

Motor yacht MCY 86 - Saloon

Motor yacht MCY 86 - Saloon

The unique style of Monte Carlo Yachts comes out of every area of the boat, and is reinforced by the choice of highlyprized materials, such as white Volterra alabaster, cedarstone marble and mocha cream limestone. Precious materials that create a feeling of elegance, which is further refined by the input of some of the most important names in international fashion and design, and the use of Venetian mosaics hand-made in Murano glass.

Every detail helps to put the new Monte Carlo Yachts 86 at the top of its category, and indeed – as stressed by the designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard – “the MCY 86 has significant usable areas and the internal lay-out of a much larger boat. The layout for owner and guests focuses on external views and consequently on natural light. The separation between guests and crew is clear: crew members can work, live, cook and steer the yacht in professional conditions: a sure guarantee of enjoyable and relaxing times on board for the owners and their guests”.

The new MCY 86 yacht is in a class of her own, offering technical, living and aesthetic solutions which cannot be found in similar vessels of the same category.

World premiere at the Festival de la Plaisance
Preceded by a private event in July, the new superyacht MCY 86 is set to make her official debut at Cannes. On 10th September the sea will have a new flagship. Made in Monte Carlo Yachts.

Arie de Boom Marine Director appointed to the board of SNBR

April 26, 2013

The Arie de Boom Marine director, Roxanne de Boom, has become a new member of the board of SNBR (Société Nautique et Balnéaire de La Rague), the public body charged with overseeing the long-term maintenance as well as strategic development of Port de La Rague. This represents one of the most enchanting full-service yacht harbours in the popular French yacht charter destination – Cote d’Azur.

ADB

Port de La Rague is the Cote d’Azur home of Arie de Boom, which also manages prime site marinas in The Netherlands and other service locations, as well its substantial new-boat sales and brokerage operations. Indeed, via its wholly owned subsidiary SEPR, Arie de Boom is responsible for the overall management of Port de La Rague that caters for everything from small ‘30-something’ all the way up to 130ft superyachts.

Lying just five miles to the southwest of Cannes, Port de La Rague is a very special yacht haven, one with real character, developed from a natural harbour and tucked out of the way beneath a striking rail-bridge landmark. It ranks as a medium-size Cote d’Azur marina, but, thanks to SNBR and Arie de Boom’s 35-year involvement, has over the years acquired all the essential attributes ‒ mini-market, snack-bar, bistros and boutiques, not to mention a diving school – and all just a short walk away from glorious private and public beaches.

Arie de Boom Marine is a real family business. Longstanding chairman Alex de Boom represents the third generation to run the family business, but, with his daughter Roxanne now a key member of the management team, the company is clearly on track for the fourth generation. Before an early management career in the retail fashion industry, where she worked with brands such as Scapa and Burberry, Roxanne de Boon studied cultural economics at Erasmus University, her father’s old university.

Before joining the family business properly, her first professional foray into the marine industry was when she helped her father establish the European office for yacht stabiliser manufacturer Wesmar.

“I am very proud to be working alongside my daughter,” says Alex de Boom, and so pleased our company is as rock solid today as it was before the financial crisis. Our business has grown through hard work and constant re-investment without debt. Roxanne’s professionalism in everything she does will help ensure that we as a business continue to go from strength to strength and that, via her SNBR input, Port de La Rague will do too.”

Roxanne de Boom is equally effusive of her day-to-day role within Arie de Boom and in being able to help steer Port de La Rague’s future course. “I have a huge respect for what my family has achieved and am thrilled to now play my part,” says Roxanne de Boom… “And I am truly honoured to have been invited to join the SNBR board and help deliver what we hope will be another step change as regards capacity and capabilities at Port de La Rague.”

Motor yacht Ferretti 960 – new flagship launched by Ferretti Yachts

April 12, 2013

During the last few days Ferretti Group’s Cattolica shipyard as well as the northern Adriatic coast town’s dock played a host to the launch of the first hull of the luxury motor yacht Ferretti 960. The beautiful Ferretti 960 yacht represents a new flagship of this leading Italian shipyard.

The launching ceremony was a highly exciting moment for all residents and, particularly, for the numerous Ferretti Group employees that worked on the design and construction of Ferretti Yachts’s new flagship for months. This new model marks yet another step forward for the Group’s historical brand, which adds a highly prestigious new yacht to its already wide range: this is indeed the largest planing yacht ever built by the Italian brand in its more-than-40-year history.

Over the next few weeks all technical activities – RINA (the Italian Register of Shipping) tests, sea trials, system and equipment tests – will be performed and onboard fitting-out operations will be completed.

Ferretti 960 yacht, which will be presented as a world premiere at next Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, is yet another outstanding result of the cooperation between Studio Zuccon International Project and AYTD – Advanced Yacht Technology & Design, Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre.

“The launch of this model makes us extremely proud, first and foremost because it marks the debut of a new flagship in the brand’s range” – stated Karin Paggi, Ferretti Yachts and Ferretti Custom Line EMEA Sales Manager. “This yacht has been conceived to meet the needs and wishes of our clients all over the world, who love Ferretti Yachts’s classic-contemporary style, but are also equally attracted by increasingly sporty and slender lines that go hand in hand with an unprecedented comfort, normally found on much larger crafts. On the Ferretti 960 we have indeed achieved truly absolute comfort while confirming the brand’s traditional outstanding performances and reliability.”

Luxury yacht Ferretti 960 – which has an overall length of 29.20 metres and a maximum width of 6.7 metres – is characterised by an optimised interior and exterior layout. It is Ferretti Yachts’s first planing recreational craft featuring the master cabin forward on the main deck, and as many as four guest cabins, all equally sized and with equivalent furnishings and fittings, located on the lower deck and brightened by large open view windows in the hull.

The layout also includes three crew cabins with reserved access from the galley, a solution normally found on maxi-yachts only. The external profile sets a new trend in the design of large planing hulls: the glazing running along the entire main deck “cuts” the hull from stern to the extreme bow, contributing to a much lighter profile that ensures incredible interior brightness and endows the yacht with a very sporty look.

As regards performances, the new flagship comes in three different sets of MTU engines. The standard version has two 16V 2000 M84 2218 mhp engines allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 27.5 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Two optional solutions include two 16V M93 2435 mhp engines or two 16V M94 2638 mhp engines, respectively. In the former version, the maximum speed will be 29 knots, the cruising speed – 25; in the latter, more powerful version, which is the one found on the first yacht just launched, the Ferretti 960 can reach a peak of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots (preliminary data). Such an outstanding propulsion, as usual, goes hand in hand with the maximum comfort ensured by the Mitsubishi Anti Rolling Gyro system, capable of reducing rolling by over 50%.

New Darwin Class 96′ motor yacht STELLA DI MARE launched by Cantiere delle Marche

March 25, 2013

The prominent Italian builder, Cantiere delle Marche, is thrilled to announce the launch of its all-new Darwin Class 96′ motor yacht “Stella di Mare”. Luxury superyacht Stella di Mare represents a beautiful 30-metre explorer, built in steel and alluminium by Cantiere delle Marche and designed by Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec.

Launch of the Darwin Class 96 Yacht STELLA DI MARE by CdM Yachts

Darwin Class 96 Yacht STELLA DI MARE by CdM Yachts

Luxury yacht Stella di Mare, which is going to be officially presented during the next Cannes Boat Show, has been designed and engineered to satisfy all the owner’s requirements. He and his large family will cruise extensively the Mediterranean Sea, covering also the most secluded and frequented spots, and they will then eventually cross the Atlantic Ocean and extend the navigation through US East Coast and the Caribbean.

The owner is a very life-at-sea and yachts passionate, he loves piloting his boat and he uses to spend a lot of time in the wheelhouse. For this reason, and in order to let him share his experience and time also with his family and friends, Cantiere delle Marche has designed a custom sky lounge, open on the wheelhouse. In case of night cruising, the pilot station can be isolated by a rollaway screen avoiding interferences of lights on the bridge’s glasses.

The Darwin Class 96’ maintains the Darwin family feeling, but it differentiates from the previous Yachts of the same line for many features: the interiors – each room is 10sqm bigger -, the VIP cabin is 1,50 sqm longer, with almost the same volumes of the Owner’s Cabin and the main deck is considerably extended.

Regarding the working space, the crew area accommodates 6 people, all the storage spaces have been increased and optimized to allow the maximum capacity in view of long passages and cruises. The garage, 10sqm bigger than the former vessels, contains also 4 bikes, 2 of them electric, with their recharge battery station.

As the interiors, also the exteriors gain in volumes and meters, in order to enjoy the very best experience every minute of the life aboard: all the bridges are noticeably longer and the sundeck has been enlarged to about 50sqm, from the (already big) 40sqm on the Darwin 86 (example is expedition yacht Percheron).

MTU 8V 2000 M72/720 Kw engines give 13,5 knots speed and minimum levels of consumption, thanks to the Heavy Duty setting, that characterizes all CdM’s yachts. A particular attention has been given to the insulation and noise control, on the owner’s specific request: CdM has developed a custom noise damping system which will reduce noise dramatically.

The interiors, designed by architects Pierluigi Floris and Marco Veglia, are contemporary, linear and very luminous, with a total white lower deck enriched by details in essence. Natural Elm and open pore white Elm are the main essences, with Travertino marbles throughout the 30m superyacht Stella di Mare.

CdM’s shareholder and sales director Vasco Buonpensiere comments: ”I am always very excited when I see one of our yachts touching the water for the first time after about 24 months of work, efforts and big challenges all dedicated to our Client’s satisfaction. This 30-meters yacht is once again the confirmation of the importance of owner and shipyard’s relationship and his involvement in the process. That’s why I would like to thank our client, his family and the team here at CdM that has contributed building this beautiful, luxury, tough and safe yacht. Cantiere delle Marche stands out, and always will, for its commitment in satisfying its clients at best”.

The new Stella di Mare yacht totally matches with the Darwin Class’ technical features as far as for the extra-thick steel plates, the Heavy Duty engines, the Cupro Nickel piping, the remote controlled valves, the automatic parallel device for gensets’ management, the treatment systems for bilge, black and grey water, these used also on commercial ships. Every details in the engine room has been designed and constructed following the highest criteria: this is definitely one of the reasons why Cantiere delle Marche has so fastly become a reference in the market in spite of his recent start up.

Darwin Class, as the name could suggest, are a type of vessels that heralds an advance in the evolution of a species, namely the yacht, which, although it modifies its form, keeps its DNA unchanged, the commercial ships, maintaining all the chromosomes that allow it to cruise in safety, in every weather’s condition and in complete independence. The yachts measure from 21 to 45 metres, and they contain features rarely seen in vessels of this size.

CDM’s mission is to make its yachts eco-compatible: an important contribution in this sense is the option to outfit Darwin Class vessels with Azipod electric diesel engine systems developed in collaboration with the most technologically advanced companies in the shipbuilding industry.

Thanks to these innovative, highly manoeuvrable propulsion units the yachts built by Cantiere delle Marche will lower their environmental impact, reduce their emissions and achieve a quantum leap in sailing autonomy before refuelling.
