The Supercrew Awards 2012 organised by Krystal Yachts

December 06, 2011

The Supercrew Awards, a competition which recognises excellence in superyacht crew members, is organised by Krystal Yachts. This English company was set-up to provide sailing and motor yacht owners and their crew with a simple solution to yacht management and in particular, onboard reporting and land-based support.

Krystal Yachts´ iPad

Krystal Yachts´ iPad

The safe and effective operation of any luxury yacht requires a significant amount of checks and administration to be carried out on a regular basis, such as for ISM’s and mini ISM’s. The collection, recording and analysis of this data are necessary yet time-consuming tasks for the captain and crew.

That’s why Krystal Yachts have developed an easy to use iPad/iPhone-based checklist application that the captain and crew use to quickly record all the necessary information. This is then automatically sent to their secure data centres to process the information and send the relevant pdf reports by email to whoever needs them.

Presented quarterly, and based on the exclusive nominations of captains, the Supercrew Award goes to the individual that best demonstrates the qualities of ability, attitude and going the extra mile.

Each quarter a panel of judges will determine the winner, who will receive an engraved iPad. The winner will be included on the guest lists of all future Krystal Yachts events.

The Supercrew Awards 2012´s competition opens in January.

The interior spaces of the superyacht Blue Force One – AB 116 have been conceived in order to grant the utmost comfort in an environment able to create a continuity between exterior and interior. When entering from the main door, the spaciousness of the room together with the choice for natural essences like wenge’ and durmast put together with fabrics and leathers with subtle colour, create a salon with a big impact for its largeness and brightness.

The big windowing gives the idea of open spaces and the distribution of rooms has been studied in order to create a unique environment to live the sea.

AB Yachts has been able to conceive also for this new AB 116 luxury yacht Blue Force One a valuable design, with a high level stylistic approach, that is manifest also for the utmost care for the smallest detail. The main deck of is a true loft, and contains a living area thought to live spaces in the utmost relax: it guests a wide U-shape sofa, followed by a dining table for 10 guests, and, on the right, a piece of furniture with a 50’’ TV that can be lowered in the furniture, and a bar corner that includes fridge, ice maker and sink.

The wheelhouse of the Blue Force One yacht is separated from the salon in a very discreet way through a panel put in the centre of the area that remains at half the height of the room, in order to allow a 360° visibility of the exterior from any point in the main deck.

Downstairs we find a suggestive salon used as TV room lightened by the upper deck windowing, the owner cabin on the stern is a true suite, bright and spacious, thanks to the wide windowing on both sides. Besides the owner cabin, in the night area there are two twin cabins with twin beds and private bathroom and a VIP cabin on the bow, and an additional cabin that can be used as gym or guest cabin. The crew quarters, containing three cabins and bathrooms, also contain a fully accessorised galley.

And the exterior of the AB 116 motor yacht Blue Force One is not less: going onboard, the cockpit, covered with teak like all the external floor, reveals immediately the attention given to the maximisation of the spaces for relax: as a matter of fact we find here a wide sunbed that can be used as a sofa, and, on the bow, a convivial area with table and sofas. Sofas and a really huge sunbed are also on the Flying bridge, where we find a wheelhouse in the centre and on the bow a comfortable dining area with icemaker and fridge.

Like for the other sea jewels built by the Massa shipyard, from the structural point of view the yacht shows hull and superstructure built with materials borrowed from aerospace industry that grant lightness and solidity. The three engines MTU 16V2000 M93 CR of 2400 HP each with the 3 MJP waterjets allow the new AB 116 superyacht Blue Force One to reach a maximum speed of 46 knots with the utmost confidence and total absence of vibrations.

RYA Volunteer Awards 2011

November 29, 2011

A total of 48 voluntary awards were presented to winners hailing from across the UK from as far afield as Hayling Island and Loch Tummel, Scotland.

Jim Hartshorne was nominated for this award by the sailing club and was selected as a winner by the Awards panel for his work at his club, Loch Tummel Sailing Club, where he has been a member since the 1970s.

He has served as a flag officer for the club for a number of years as well as using his engineering background to help provide technical support. Jim has helped with the upkeep of the club including researching and implementing projects from the RYA Green Blue initiative. All his hard work and dedication has allowed his club to grow and develop including running regular events.

“Everyone at the awards ceremony was so friendly and there was such a relaxed atmosphere. It was great to meet lots of people from different clubs all over the UK and discuss some of the issues that clubs face throughout the years. My only regret was not getting to spend even more time speaking to all the people there” said Jim when asked about his experience at the awards.

Jim Hartshorne and the other RYA Award winners enjoyed a celebratory lunch in the presence of HRH the Princess Royal, and were presented with a commemorative medallion and certificate.

Sarah Treseder, RYA Chief Executive says “The RYA is delighted to make this RYA Volunteer Award in recognition of Jim’s enthusiasm, promotion of our sport and many years’ contribution to the Loch Tummel sailing scene. All 48 RYA winners are an inspiration to us all and it is my pleasure to recognise and celebrate their sheer hard work and commitment through these awards.”

Double award-winning triumph for Holland Jachtbouw 42m Calliope Superyacht

November 28, 2011

Holland Jachbouw 42m motor yacht Calliope has now received not one but two major industry motoryacht awards in her class. Having already won a prestigious Neptune Trophy for the best planing motoryacht in 2011 World Superyacht Awards, the stunning Calliope superyacht has recently received the prominent Showboats Exterior Design & Styling Award for a semi-displacement motoryacht.

“This is a remarkable achievement for any superyacht,” comments Tako van Ineveld, Commercial Director at Holland Jachtbouw. “But it is surely unique that a yard like Holland Jachtbouw – which has made its name for creating famous sail yachts like charter yacht Windrose of Amsterdam and Athos yacht – could beat all the dedicated powerboat yards to win these two awards. Moreover, Calliope is only our second motoryacht, which speaks volumes for the way we have been able to incorporate sailing yacht standards of finish and fine detailing into the fully custom powerboat environment.”

The luxury yacht Calliope’s double award winning performance is also a testimony to her owner’s dedication to perfection and the exquisite design by Bill Langan and Rhoades Young Design. ” Calliope has been dubbed ‘the ultimate Gentlemen’s yacht’ and I think this is a fair assessment,” Van Ineveld continues. ” She is by no means a typical motoryacht in terms of her colour or shaping, and has a very distinctive look. The fabulous interior is also a key reason why our industry peers have been so impressed with this fascinating project.”

These are busy times at Holland Jachtbouw. The build of the awesome new J-Class sailing yacht Rainbow is now at an advanced stage as the yard gears up for the 2012 regattas in and around Cowes. Construction also recently got underway on another magnificent sailing yacht, a 45m high performance sloop from the boards of Dixon Yacht Design. And the yard’s success with motoryachts will continue, having just signed the contact for an extensive interior refit of the 42m motor yacht Life SAGA.
