At the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, Feadship revealed its 11th luxury yacht concept and its most ground-breaking to date: Superyacht SLICE.

The exceptional 85m/278.10ft SLICE addresses long-standing layout issues which produce long, dark corridors and stacked living spaces across the decks. The remedy, in this case, is a glass strip overlaying a structural framework running the full length of the vessel, allowing natural light to permeate multiple decks, bringing “…the inside out and the outside in,” according to Studio De Voogt Lead Designer Chris Bottoms and Head of Design Tanno Weeda.

At the heart of the yacht brief was the requirement for a linear ‘transition from the mountain to the sea’. As a result, simple corridors are transformed into liveable spaces, such as the 70m²/753ft² atrium on the main deck. Without a staircase on display, the area can be used for light and art installations surrounded by circular balconies above.

Dutch designer Marco van Ham styled the interiors, following a request from Feadship to avoid using teak at all. The luxurious interiors are composed of matte and gloss surfaces in liquid metal, silver leaf, shagreen, pyrite and straw marquetry against backlit marbles and onyx. Warm, neutral tones in the furnishings and organic shapes such as undulating lines in the flooring add to the sense of calm within.

The accommodation sleeps up to 20 guests privately and 12 for luxury yacht charters, while a crew of 24 will see to every aspect of life on board.

Privacy is another common request with superyacht Owners, especially when it comes to using outdoor facilities while in port. M/Y SLICE has taken this into consideration when designing the aft pool and sunbathing spaces by creating a fully engineered passerelle and watertight forward entrance so that the bow faces the dock, and the stern looks out to the harbour. A full-height section of the stern at the main deck level will hinge open and deploy the passerelle at the touch of a button, allowing guests to enter from the quay into a reception room forward of the tender storage areas.

The aforementioned 10m/32.9ft pool has received special consideration as well, engineered to reduce slosh using hidden dampers.

The propulsion is future-ready: Four dual-fuel generators can run on both methanol and non-fossil diesel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil – HVO), and the power they supply will go to two Azimuthing pods.

The option of replacing one of the generators with methanol fuel cells exists, which would generate power to contribute to the hotel load of the vessel. A battery array, supplied with power from both generators, and the fuel cells allow for low speed, silent cruising and for peak shaving of the generators. Depending on what propulsion method is chosen, M/Y SLICE is capable of a top speed of 16 knots, a cruising speed of 11 knots and a range of approximately 5,000 nautical miles.
