Phuket in the Andaman Sea has long been known for its spectacular beaches and diving however the Gulf of Thailand also offers an exciting sailing ground in Asia. The Gulf of Thailand is a beautiful charter destination that boasts warm waters and untouched tropical Islands.
The Gulf of Thailand is bordered by Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. The boundary of the gulf is defined by the line from Cape Bai Bung in southern Vietnam (just south of the mouth of the Mekong river) to the city Kota Baru on the Malaysian coast. The northern tip of the gulf is the Bay of Bangkok at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River. The Gulf of Thailand yacht charter area covers roughly 320,000 km².
This Gulf of Thailand charter area is relatively unknown in yacht charter circles so there are not many large luxury motor yachts or sailing yachts (superyachts) that are based here permanently however there are yachts that would consider relocating from Thailand’s Andaman Sea or perhaps other countries in Asia. There are also many yachts that will pass the Gulf of Thailand while enjoying a round the world cruise.
The Gulf of Thailand offers a year round charter destination that is second to none. Within the Gulf of Thailand there are three major charter areas of interest including the Ko Chang Archipelago, Ang Thong Archipelago, Koh Samui and Pattaya.
Ko Samui is an island resort and a district of the province of Surat Thani. The central section of the island is mountainous, whilst the coast features fine beaches with fringes that are covered by coconut groves. Yacht charterers and tourists on board luxury yachts and superyachts in Koh Samui can enjoy stunning national marine parks, exciting nightlife, beautiful landscapes and so much more. Popular beach destinations in the Ko Samui include Ao Thing Takian, Ao Bang Rak, Hat Lamai, Hat Chawaeng, Hat Nathon, Hat Thong Yang, Hat Choeng Mon and Ao Thing Takian.
Ang Thong archipelago is a cluster of 42 idyllic islands and covers an area of about 102 square kilometres. This yacht charter holiday destination in the Gulf of Thailand is about 20 NM away from the island of Ko Samui. Ang Thong features several sites that are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving as well as inland locations that are perfect for mountain climbing.
The Ko Chang Archipelago is located in the province of Trat. It has a terrain that is predominantly mountainous and covered by dense forests. The archipelago includes a chain of over 50 small islands and is famous for its stunning waterfalls, the Than Mayom.
Pattaya in Thailand is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. The waters off Pattaya deliver good solid sailing conditions all year round with plenty of deserted tropical bays to drop anchor for the night making it an ideal charter destination year round.

It is Monday morning and we are just waking up from traveling home. We got off the yacht on Saturday and spent the night in San Juan. I was very pleased with the crew. This was my 5th charter within the last 13 months and by far the best crew. They all had great personalities, and worked very well together. John was a very accommodating captain. Chelsea, Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the crew of the Shangani for looking after us on our exciting and much enjoyed cruise around Thailand. Not only was the scenery spectacular the yacht was a perfect way to see the area and the support and company of the crew made the holiday one to remember. Bo was a fantastic chef who not only delivered great meals, she was a delight to deal with, always wanting to make sure we were looked after, little Rosie was always on hand to cater for all our needs, and made everything so easy for us we didn’t have to do anything and nothing was a problem. The boys were also great support, if we wanted to go snorkelling or a ride on the kayaks they had everything organised, and made everything so easy to do. The crew are such a delight to deal with and made us feel so welcome on your yacht.
