Anegada, Virgin Islands yacht charter.
Getting to Anegada is easy while you are on board your luxury yacht charter in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. Famous for its stunning white sandy beaches, fabulous beach shacks and for the huge Horseshoe shaped reef that protects its pristine shores, Anegada should not be missed during your luxury Caribbean vacation.
Anegada is a coral Island and about 15 square miles in total, which makes it the second largest island in the British Virgin Island Archipelago. Anegada is unique because it is the only inhabited island of the BVI’s which is not volcanic; rather it is formed by coral and limestone and surrounded by one of the largest reefs in the world. While the other islands in the group are mountainous, Anegada is flat. In fact its highest point is only about 28 feet above sea level, earning it the name which translates as “the drowned land.”
Anegada lies approximately 15 miles north of Virgin Gorda and the remoteness of its location is one of its main attractions for a yacht charter vacation because you can get away from the hustle bustle. Most visitors come on board their own luxury charter yacht to Anegada to relax and spend time on one of the island's beautiful but relatively deserted north shore beaches.
Keen fisherman can also take advantage of its miles of south shore flats which have a large population of bonefish, making Anegada a popular destination for flyfishing. The whole Island can be easily toured in a day by taking a ride with one of the friendly taxi drivers who shuffle you from bar to beach at your leisure.
A visit during you luxury cruise to Anegada may also present you with an opportunity to see pink flamingoes in their natural habitat. Reintroduced to the island in 1992 they have been successfully breeding their ever since. Anegada’s huge salt flats are perfect for the Flamingos diet of Brine shrimp which is what gives them their very distinctive pink coloring.
