May 22, 2013

Three excellent Russian sailors will join the Esimit Sailing Team, composed of all-star sailors coming from 10 European nations and Russia, as recently announced by Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project. Alexander Ekimov, Egor Larionov, Nikolay Kornev as well as the last year’s addition to the team, Anton Sergeev, represent the Russian part of the Esimit Sailing Team.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht skippered by the best German sailor Jochen Schümann will not only further extend her message of Pan-European collaboration, but will also enter the new season with some technological improvements to be able to keep up her record breaking performances in the northern Europe.

“The Esimit Europa 2 yacht symbolizes the future of a successful European continent, which tightly lies in cooperation between Europe and Russia. I am convinced that as on our yacht, the foundation to common success is in close collaboration and mutual understanding, a winning mentality and constant innovations. Only by doing this, we at the Esimit Europa project can be a step ahead of the competition, achieving victories and setting records and remaining the most ambitious sailing project in the world.

Therefore, I am extremely happy and proud to welcome to our Pan-European team 3 excellent Russian sailors, multiple Russian and European champions in various Olympic sailing classes, winners of match races and the most prestigious big boats regattas. After the extremely successful run in the Mediterranean, when we crossed the finish line first at every attended race and also set 5 records, now together with the newly joined Russian sailors, we await new challenges in the seas of northern Europe – in Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom – before returning back to the Mediterranean in the second half of the season,” said Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project.

Along with announcing new sailing challenges (Kieler Woche in Germany, ÅF Offshore Race in Sweden and Cowes Week and Rolex Fastnet Race in the United Kingdom), Simčič presented also the new technological perfections to the world’s fastest monohull yacht. “With a clear goal of taking line honours at all the attended races in the upcoming season in mind new sails with technologically revolutionary processes of construction have been developed in collaboration between our crew member Jordi Calafat as a designer and North Sails company as a manufacturer. We have also placed a couple of new yacht’s components made of titan and carbon fibres, while at the same time we did an extensive revision of electronics and hydraulics. Therefore, nothing is left to coincidence and we are ready for the tough conditions awaiting in the seas of northern Europe,” added Simčič.

The company, led by Chairman Leonardo Ferragamo and Executive Vice President Roger Talermo, is well positoned to leverage recent restructuring and investments made for the future including the appointment of Kjell Vesto to the key role of Operations Director.

Sales in the first quarter of 2013 included a Swan 90S yacht and Swan 80FD to North American clients, followed by last month’s sale of a Swan 60 in Asia. The first Swan ever sold in China, this sale marks an important milestone for both Nautor’s Swan and the new owner who is expected to both cruise and race his Swan 60 yacht in Hainan.

Other sales in Asia include two Swan 53s to buyers in India and the Philippines. These recent successes are indicative of Nautor’s investment in the region and the growing demand for luxury yachts in Asia.

Luca Lucheschi, Commercial Director at Nautor’s Swan commented: “The owner of this new Swan 60 is a sailor who has achieved his dream of owning a Swan. Looking forward to the rest of the year, in Asia and specifically in China, we have a few promising negotiations ongoing. We are cautious, but optimistic about the Asian market’s interest in our new models, particularly the superyacht Swan 105 and Swan 114.”

2013 looks set to be an exciting and prosperous year for the company, with continued focus on the North American and Asian markets where the demand for beautifully designed and built yachts is clear.

The Esimit Sailing Team will perform at 2 races and will move to Stockholm immediately after for the start of the most renowned Swedish regatta, the ÅF Offshore Race, on 30. June. The 350 nautical miles long race, which rounds the scenic Gotland Island and ends in Sandham, will see the record fleet of extremely attractive yachts, all of them eager to take line honours at this Swedish classic.

After her performance in Sweden, the 30-meter luxury yacht Esimit Europa 2 will be shipped to the United Kingdom for the start of the Cowes Week at the beginning of August, one of the oldest continuing sporting events in the United Kingdom (established in 1826). 18-member crew will show its skills at 3 inshore races and prepare for one of the toughest and most renowned European races, the famous Rolex Fastnet Race.

After the Rolex Fastnet Race, Esimit Europa 2 yacht will return to Mediterranean for 4 races in October. Starting with Bernetti Lombardini Cup and Barcolana in the Gulf of Trieste. Motor Yacht LARS - On Charter in Northern Europe

LARS’s history goes back to 1995, when she was designed to become the ultimate tugboat for her original owner. Known as Zeemeeuw, she was built to Bureau Veritas and Norwegian Ice Class by Made Shipyards, featuring a rib every 20 centimetres in the forward part of the vessel as well as a hull constructed of 40 tons of stainless steel. Unfortunately the original owner was unable to have the vessel completed and as a result she was sold to her present owner in 2010. Felix Buytendijk Yacht Design were asked to come up with new ideas and designs in order to convert Zeemeeuw into a beautiful luxury ice class expedition yacht LARS she is today.

The superyacht LARS provides her charter guests with accommodation in four lovely cabins, including one master stateroom and three guests cabins. Guests and the yacht are looked after by a friendly and professional crew of 5. Some important features of Lars yacht are a pleasant dining area, a fitness area to keep you in shape, a comfortable lounge as well as a saloon. However, the vessel’s main transformation involved  a new swim platform as well as her redesigned superstructure showing off her new spacious sundeck.

Working in partnership with designer Felix Buytendijk, Lars’ entire superstructure was raised and restyled to give her a more of a ‘yacht’ feel, especially on the forward, where the additional shaping creates the extra space required for air-conditioning and the like. The flybridge of expedition yacht Lars was made more complete, the bridge deck superstructure was lengthened to include a lounge area, and a new swimming platform integrated into the traditional canoe stern. Other highlights of the ‘new’ Lars also features a sun deck area and an observation helm from which the yacht can also be sailed.

The interior was also finished to a superyacht standard, with a masculine sporty style. Wooden floors were laid throughout as part of a no-nonsense approach designed to keep maintenance to a minimum. Lars certainly offers a pleasant environment for the eight guests to reside on long journeys, with a lounge and fitness room on the bridge deck, a comfortable salon and dining area on the main deck, an owner’s stateroom and three suites. There is also a dedicated accommodation for up to five crew members including a captain’s cabin strategically placed adjacent to the wheelhouse. The main deck aft stores two large tenders and there is a great deal of storage and refrigeration to allow for long voyages.

Greenland and Yacht Charters In the Northern Europe

Summer months are the best months to explore the enchanting and breathtaking parts of the Northern part of Europe with daylight hours reaching even 20 hours – an amazing time spam gifted by nature to let you discover one of its most beautiful corners aboard a luxury motor yacht. Greenland is the world’s largest island, contains the world’s largest national park and it is also the largest dependent territory by area in the world. An interesting fact about Greenland is that if its entire ice sheet were to melt away completely, the world’s sea level would rise more than 7 metres (23ft).

Greenland

Greenland

Your charter holiday in Greenland might not include an encounter with a polar bear, one of its biggest predators, however you are more likely to come across whales, musk oxen as well as a reindeer. In addition you might be lucky to be greeted by mountain hares and arctic foxes. One other interesting fact about this part of the world is that there are nine species of wild land mammals living in Greenland and about 60 species of bird breed in the country.

5th World Yacht Racing Forum to take place in Gothenburg, Sweden

July 18, 2012

The city of Gothenburg in Sweden has been recently presented as the host city of the 2012 edition of the annual World Yacht Racing Forum. Organised by Informa Yacht Group, the two-day conference will be held at the Clarion Post Hotel from 11-12 December in the center of Sweden’s second largest city. The Forum will also comprise the Yacht Racing Design & Technology Symposium, which will take place as a parallel event on the same dates.

World Yacht Racing Forum 2011

World Yacht Racing Forum 2011

The Forum has previously been hosted in Monaco and, for the last two years, in Estoril Portugal. However, as 2012 Conference Producer James Gradwell explains, it has been important to move the Forum to a new location; “As a global sport and industry, we have always wanted to give other cities the opportunity to host the World Yacht Racing Forum as well as offering different venues for delegates. There is a strong interest in yacht racing in Northern Europe and Gothenburg is no stranger to hosting large-scale yachting events including the Volvo Ocean Race. It is a fantastic city and we look forward to being there in December.”

Now in its 5th year, the popular World Yacht Racing Forum is the leading annual conference for the global yachting industry. The two-day event gathers the sport’s key personalities and industry experts to discuss the business of yacht racing and key issues such as sponsorship, television, media, Olympics, new markets, host cities and much more.

2012 has already been a remarkable year for yacht racing. The 2011/2012 Volvo Ocean race concluded with a spectacular finish in Galway this month. The Alpari World Match Racing Tour, Extreme Sailing Series and America’s Cup World Series are all well into their 2012 seasons and London is fast preparing for the London 2012 Olympic Games this month. The much anticipated single-handed Vendée Globe also starts in November this year from Les Sables D’Olonne in France.

New sponsors and host venues have also entered the sport this year which is testimony to the commercial value of yacht racing to sponsors and investors. The World Yacht Racing Forum will be profiling many of these new sponsors at the December conference.

The move to Gothenburg has been coordinated with Host Partner and Gothenburg based events agency Brandspot with additional support from the City of Gothenburg and the Clarion Post Hotel. As Brandpsot Managing Director Jan Torstenson explains

“We are delighted for the City of Gothenburg to host the World Yacht Racing Forum in December. The Forum is a very respected event for the professional yachting industry and I know all delegates and sponsors will be impressed with the hospitality that Gothenburg can provide. The Post Hotel, which just opened in January this year, is the ideal venue in the center of the City.”

This years World Yacht Racing Forum will include two days of interactive presentations, panel discussions and round table sessions to discuss key issues from the business of yacht racing. The Forum will also incorporate two evening social functions where delegates will be able to network with industry peers and meet new business contacts.

The full conference schedule will be available by the end of July.
